Honestly, the biggest reason why my editing has improved so much is because I'm extremely OCD. I will spend FOREVER on a pair of shoes or on perfecting the curve of a skirt. If something doesn't look right, I'll usually delete it and start completely over on it. The tutorials that are in the art and creativity section of the forum also helped me TONS. Just keep at it, and don't get frustrated if your first several attempts fall horribly short of your expectations. Count every edit as a learning experience, and never give up!
