Wow, talk about a sign. I have an essay due on The Fountainhead in a few hours, and I'm wasting time on here instead! Nevertheless, I highly recommend it. It's a mind opening experience, and it doesn't hurt that the protagonist is dead sexy.

Re: Bimbo Bookworm Club!

Hello my loves!  I'm sorry I've been neglecting the forums sad

Some replies, both general and specific:
HOORAY TO EVERYONE WHO SAID THAT THEY ARE IN!  Can't wait to hear what you all have to say!

Chappy – I’ll keep you posted!  content4  I know this one is technically YA rather than Adult, but we’ll have different selections as we go on…

Lida_Mina – Okay, I hope to see you joining in when there are some books that you are into and I hope you have time to participate!  content4

SpoiledDivaPrincess – I’ve already read The Fountainhead – good book, I personally didn’t fall in love with it, but I don’t think many would be able to cruise through it in a week, especially if it’s a busy week…

Lisa410 – That’s fine!  You can skip The Sisterhood and check back to see what other books we’ll be discussing!

Jade Doll – That’s fine, I hope that you like future selections and hope to see you on the thread!  content4

Nadriel – Oh dear, good luck on everything that you’re trying to get done – I hope everything works out for the best!  I hope to see you around and hear your input on future books when you get settled in your new house!

Mitsey – That is a GREAT SITE!  Thank you for sharing!

PolkaDotBlue – I’m feeling a bit down lately, unfortunately…Yes, it is in the teen section – it’s technically a young adult book but I know adults who enjoyed it and, being a dorky future librarian, I felt the need to read it since I haven’t already content4  It’s a good book!

Ekeneso – Hopefully you can track down an Italian copy – future books will be decided by whoever participates in the discussions, so it may or may not be a classic.

Lizzy1515 – I am in love with your avtar…. I just ate a grape…

General Stuff

This week's book is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares...I'm aware that it is in the teen section – it’s technically a young adult book but I know adults who enjoyed it and, being a dorky future librarian, I felt the need to read it since I haven’t already content4  It’s a cute book, though!  If that isn’t your taste, a new book will be selected by one of the people who participated in discussion after the discussion takes place content4

I figured we could start discussion this Friday and then, after discussing it for a week or so/giving everyone who wants to say something about it move on to the next book, which we’ll have a week to read and then a week to discuss (so if you don’t finish it in a week, you just come on the thread later)…I don't mean for this to be a stressful thing, just a fun thing...and hopefully you should be able to find the books at your library or bookswap so you don't have to spend money on them!

Please Note:  Only those who participate in this week's book discussion be eligible to select the next book!  You can choose to participate or not participate at your leisure, but the names of those who participate will be put into a hat and someone will be selected at random - this person will get to pick and announce the next book up for discussion - that is how our books will be chosen!

I haven't seen the film...There aren't many films that I like more than the book, though, to be honest...

Re: Bimbo Bookworm Club!

Yes!  I've finished it too...I guess we can start discussing as soon as it turns to Friday in miss bimbo world for the people who have read it, and the people who have not finished it yet can join in when they finish, up until next friday content4  That way they don't get the story spoiled if they haven't finished it yet but still get some time to express their opinion...

Ooh and I'm sure (and sincerely hope that) this is completely unnecessary but I wanted to post it anyway...Just a rule for how the discussions will go, as imposed by Miss Bimbo in general as well as myself because I'm all about love and harmony:

Please learn to express disagreement RESPECTFULLY!  Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions...It's perfectly okay to come on after reading a book and say "I really didn't like this book, and this is why..." or to disagree with something that someone else said (to pick on PolkaDot, because she knows that I wouldn't hate on her for real, "I see what you're saying, but I don't agree...You thought that the color of the cover was appealing, but it reminded me of pea soup, which I do not like" ridiculous example and in real life I do like pea soup, but you get what I'm saying) - everyone is entitled to their own opinions and, as long as you have read the book, you can say what you think/feel about it without reservation.  But please don't say things in a way that is mean or attacking to other people who are participating in the discussion...If someone brings up a point that you don't agree with, don't say something like "I can't believe you thought that, you idiot, you're completely wrong and have terrible taste...(meanness...etc etc...)" Intellectual discussion and debate is fine and encouraged, but it is all to take place RESPECTFULLY!  Treating other members of Miss Bimbo in an insulting or disrespectful manner is against the rules of Miss Bimbo and this forum!   I know that that probably didn't need to be said, because you all seem quite lovely and intelligent, and I'm very excited to hear what you all have to say, but I just wanted to post it so that nobody could say that they weren't aware of it or something.

Very well carryon!

P.S. For the record, I don't dislike the cover or pea soup and especially not PolkaDotBlue lol content4

YAY!  So who's read it and had an opinion?

I really liked it content4...I'm very into YA literature lately because of a course that I'm taking, so I'm quite happy that I read this book...I felt like the characters could have been people that I know smile

I  love alot of Young Adult lit. I'm the reader in my circle of friends and when any of their kids show an interest in a new series I get "elected" to pre read them to keep an eye on the content - looking for either sexual or violence. Most of the books I've read offer a very satisfying read with out a lot of the extra BS that comes with dealing with adult characters.

WhatGoesOn wrote:

I thought the 1st book was a decent read - but did not draw me into it and make me want more.

Haha that's fun that you're the one who gets to screen the books, so to say content4 ...While I do love adult books, there's also something about YA books that just makes me happy - like you said, there are a lot that can be quite satisfying without all of the "junk"...Out of curiosity, is your username a reference to the book Weetzie Bat ?  Because I had seen it around and was considering asking you, but it's kind of a random book and figured that you would probably think that I was insane, but since you're posting on this thread, maybe my original theory wasn't so far-fetched after all...content4  Haha...

And as far as what you said about the Sisterhood book...I personally did feel drawn in by it, but, at the end I also did not find myself wanting more - it felt "finished" to me, and, even though I found the first book cute and did enjoy it, I wondered if the notion of having it as a series was something that could possibly be overkill or too much of a good thing (anyone reading this, feel free to disagree - it's just my humble opinion)...So I kind of wonder as to whether this was originally to be a series or if the first book just had such a good response that the author wound up writing more...I think I'm going to look into that...

That's exactly what I mean - they can be satisfying without all the adult drama - not that the YA don't have drama - it's just a "purer" form of it. And I get to read ALOT of books for free. That's a good deal any way you cut it.

WhatGoesOn wrote:

To answer truthfully - yes and no. When I was a baby my dad referred to me a his little witch, that then turned to Witch Baby. Several years ago I read the Weetzie Bat books and low & behold there's the name again. So I started using it again, especially online. And I have to say that Ms LaBlock is one of my favorite YA arthors, (per conversation above) sometimes her story lines can get a little deep for the younger half of YA.

Sisterhood was a really good book in and of itself - I just felt that it was a good book that got turned into a shabby/forced "series" to make more money.

According to what I heard when the movie came out - it was meant to be a stand alone - we are all girls in this together - celebrate boobies.
