.. got me thinking,, I was just wondering, what everyone thought of all these attacks directed at MissBimbo users, regarding the topic of feminism. What are everyone's views on 'feminism' overall, and then feminism in context to the site?
I'm of the opinion that being a feminist more so puts a great deal of emphasis on your sexuality. If the ideals of feminism really matter, then why make such distinctions?! Why waste your time protesting that the little green man on traffic lights should be turned to women? Surely in itself that's being sexist. I'd like to believe I'm extremely passive to all of it... and though I'll forever respect those women in the past who fought for our rights, and who transcended into a male world (Emily Dickinson is a personal hero), I just don't see the great relevance of it in the 21st century.
As for these 'feminists' who are attacking the site... I think I've seen more intellect and more substance from a great many players on the forums. I love this site, and I think sometimes people take themselves far too seriously and lose the inability to differentiate between an internet game and the real world.
I hope I've not offended anyone, and was just quite interested to read your views as well as express my own.

I don't see these women who are attacking the website as feminists. They aren't doing what feminism agrees with, and that's allowing women the right to choose. They're talking what they believe and trying to shove it down our throats, degrading us telling us we're weak minded.

I feel like maybe they have the right "idea" about how society exhibits and exploits women, but at the same time, the ones coming to the site seem a little extreme. Sure women are still getting paid less, but eliminating Missbimbo isn't going to give me an extra .70 cents in my pocket each hour I work, is it?
And more than that, the "winners" on that specific site mentioned in the announcements are sponsored by Dove. I really feel like that whole site is just a right wing fundamental scheme for Tina Fey... I mean, Sarah Palin.

do you mean sexuality there? lol.
most feminists would just rather men werent always seen as the default setting, switching to women as a deviant. its not about getting rid of male signs, its about including women. no problem with it being androgynous but stick figures are always seen as men, needing boobs or skirts or hair added to make it female. its the same with language. most words for groups of people or androgynous are still male like dude, guy, mankind etc, even kid. youd say girl if it was a little girl.
gender separation in feminist groups is used because there are many women and feminists that have been assaulted and abused by men that are scared of them, and also there is the issue of just being chatted up or looked at sexually. its nice to have a day where you dont need to worry about that. in discussions quite often men tend to lead conversation and sometimes in a sense take over. perhaps it is actually the women that sit back but either way it happens, and as well as that, the focus is on womens issues and how things affect women even though the effects on men are discussed a lot. this means lot of the time when talking about men raping women its hard to get to the points without hearing about how men are raped too. of course its important, and im sure intensely discussed in male feminist meetings as well as other ones. the point is that people have trouble talking about things that affect women, but not about things that affect just men. ive seen many an article about how boys arent doing so well in school.
most women dont want to break into the male world, they want it to be a world for all of them where we can be as macho or girly as we like without being taken less seriously. most of us get shouted at when we walk down the street without a man. when a woman has a baby she makes the "choice" to work or stay at home. when a man has a baby this choice is not expected of him. also recently ive seen articles saying that male students are failing because the teachers are mainly women and they dont like the shrill voices.
i think there is still a huge need for feminism whenever i see how badly characterised every female character is on TV. not just the mens shows, but on the womens shows and sadly on the mixed viewing shows. obviously its hard for anyone to imagine watching more women than men in a mixed show, or to have the female as the funny one without being a psycho.

I feel that they are treating us as if we are idiots and not the strong, confident, intelligent, people that we are. I think feminists are doing a great disservice to themselves by discrediting our ability to have rational judgment, basically saying if a woman does not share the same view as theirs they are somehow not as intelligent???!!
It would be interesting to compare our membership side to side and see just how dumb and impressionable we bimbo's really are.

i thought this was about feminism in general rather than the judgemental people that invaded the site

There are a lotttt of things feminists fight for/against the in the 21st century.
Reproductive and abortion rights.
Equal pay.
Affordable childcare (especially for single mothers)
Bringing to light the frequency of sexual and domestic violence against women
The portrayal of women as sexualized objects in advertising.
Glamorization of eating disorders and the media's unhealthy portrayal of how women should look
And maaany more issues.
Don't base your opinions on third wave feminism on that website.. o.o They clearly did little research about Miss Bimbo.

Feminism can be wonderful.
However, the way some people voice their version of it can be more counterproductive to women's rights in general helpful.
After looking at the website that is causing the trouble I, personally, belive the fall into that catergory. In my experience, these women tend to be more insecure with themselves than anyhting else and resent women that can be strong, educated, still enjoy being women and can interact with men as equals.
There are far more important women's issues to be fought for than an adverstising campaign.
Women's health and education, pay disaparity, job descrimination etc. are far more important than bad ads.

I think that some feminists really need to learn how to pick their battles.
I understand why someone may be offended by Miss Bimbo, but ultimately I am sure that a lot of the users are successful happy women or men who just want to have a laugh. Why isn't it empowering to have a bimbo?
Granted there are things on this website that I can understand has the potential to influence younger girls, but at the same time it's their parents jobs to regulate what websites they go on and how they spend their online time.
Anyway, I guess that what an individual finds empowering is different from person to person. I agree though that the ultimate thing that defines this is being able to choose for one's self. I will decide what I thinks crosses the line for me and I will never let someone else do that on my behalf. On that same note, I do not expect that my views will always influence others either. So in other words, feminists should be happy that they have the right to choose, but not expect that their views will be thrusted automatically onto others.

I had a male lecturer who was a bit of a feminist. I didn't agree with much of what he said at all (about gender or about any of the other things he taught us
) One thing he talked about was the idea that the built environment is male-centred, for example modern detatched homes isolate women. He thought we would all be happier if we lived in communes where people could share childcare, housework etc. I just don't see it.
