Re: [The Oldies]

Goba, maybe you've shared this with the others before i came along, but tell us about yourself.  are you married? do you have children? pets? hobbies?

Rickie how bout you?

Mari, same questions. by the way mari, i like your prayer too.

i know i'm the one who always wants to get into these deeper conversations, but compared to taking care of orphans in india this is shallow.

i bought a cast iron asian tea pot yesterday.I'm told it brews superior tea and stays warm for an hour after you take it off the flame.i've seen the same type of tea pot in a store called"TEAVONA" for 150 dollars. i got it for 20 dollars at a local discount store that sell up market items at affordable prices because they by bits and pieces from allover the place. anyway a friend of mine told me you have to have a little cast iron box that goes with it, and it uses a small candle called a tea light to warm the water and brew the tea. has anyone ever used one?

Hi Lisa,

Come and join us, we always have loads to say.

Gwinn, I find you very deep and you have so much to share with everyone.  Keep it going.

Gwinn, I have heard about the Tea Pot.  Believe it is still used in China and places like that.  Must take for ever to warm up the water.

Re: [The Oldies]

Lisa, tell us a little about yourself and where you’re from?

I started a Thread back sometime ago ‘Called the Oldie’s Thread’ and we a decided that we would go to the Poll and vote for a new name, hence the ‘Hot Flasher’s think it is quite good.  So this is a Thread for us ladies who want to make Friends and join in with some really good conventional chat.

At the moment it is buzzing and looking good, missing one of our Ladies ‘Bunny’ where are you, she is so nice and tells us what she and Teddy gets up to.  Gwinn is the one for the more serious side of things and brings some really good topics to our thread.

Me, I plonder and throw anything I can think off, even the odd Joke: O ) blebl

Re: [The Oldies]

welcome lisa111.

rickie123 a nice age your daughters are at. how exciting, a younger man!  my nephew goes with a lady 11 years older than himself. he is 26 she is 37. they make a nice pair and she has helped him grow up. i wish you all the best! age is just a number past a certain point, mind you i feel an 18 year old and a 35 year old is stretching it a bit. because the younger has so much growing and changeing to do.  myself. i'm 46. never married. i used to feel bad about that and now many of my friends and old school mates are just as single as i am. my 80 yr old mum lives with me. she's pretty spry but does not drive. i have a 6 mo old brussells griffon pup who drives me crazy but i love her. i'm a nurse and my hobbies are tie dying t-shirts a little gardening. i love being outdoors and would camp if i could. this is my favorite time of year. later today i'm going to an orchard about 10 miles from home to pick apples. they're the kind that crunch when you bite them, tart and sweet at the same time.

Well Ruby I am 38 married with a 16 y/o boy and a 17 month old daughter.  I am married to a 24 y/o ( sometimes very interesting) but it works out somehow!!  I work for the 911 system here in Texas, I do the mapping and addressing for the dispatch and emergency vehicles.  That's my life not very exciting but crazy at times!!

Hi ladies! Don't think I've told so much about myself here.
We married last year after being together for 25 years. We've 3 kids ( 7, 14 and 16 ).
To bad I'm the only one here at this time of day. Would love to chat!

Hi lisa, sorry I had to run this morning...My bo is 7 years younger than me...most of the time its not an issue at all..actually the only time we even think about it is when we are discussing past events...then those seven years really pop up..but its funny.

Re: [The Oldies]

Bunny is back!!!!  Hi everyone and so nice to see some new Hot Flashers here...... I have a bit to catch up on......

Teddy is almost 3 years younger than me and he loves to say it's 3 years when we are in the 3 months before he catches up!  Cheeky bear!!  Teddy and I have been together for 10 years and before that I was married to someone 5 years younger then me - but still a baby.  In between I went out with someone who was 28 and I was 42 - it was a very mad time.... he was nuts and so were all his family - we had a very good time together for a few months.

We used to have 2 dogs - Roy the Border Collie and Bacchus the labrador - sadly both are no longer around.  We are not going to get more pets just yet because we are still travelling and we think that it's not fair to them to go to the kennels for long periods.  We have just got back from 3 months in South Africa and now we are booking a trip to Thailand next January.  We have rented an apartment in Chaing mai for a month..... yummy Thai food for 3 meals a day - YAY!!  I wish there were some Flashers here for a chat - I'll look in later.  Tonight I am cooking dinner for my sister and her man - she looked after our house while we were away so we want to treat her.  Love from The Rabbit XX

Re: [The Oldies]

bunny, i envy your trip to thailand!!!! don't blame you about not having dogs at this time. travel is such a wonderful experience.  and dogs are a lot like children.  i would not have gotten mine if not for my mother. we tried three years ago with two shizu pups. it was a mistake to get two babies at the same time. long story short a young friend of mine is the happy owner of the female and my brother has the male along with his 10 yr old shi zu and 6 yr old beagle.  anyway, my mother pulled out the big guns and started reading me the dog adds in the paper only 2 weeks after we settled the fiasco about the two pups. i held my ground for almost 3 years then she said "i just want a dog one more time before i die"  what can you do faced with that?  i had to get a dog.  i love the little monster to death now and rally would not trade her because she is so sweet, but owning a dog is very restrictive. going places is an issue and  i cannot even do tie dying in the house because the chemicals can be very harsh and the pup just appears out of no where and i'm afraid she might get hurt.

goba what a nice family! your children must be so much fun!

Re: [The Oldies]

lisa you must have been devastated to loose your boxer after hand raising him/her. there is something irresistible about a helpless little pup and they just bond so closely with you when you care for them like that. i bet you could not get out of razors sight!  glad you have a new little girl! how old is bella? i would not know how to spell chi wa wa either!

Re: [The Oldies]

Evening, Ladies how are we see you have all been busy chatting brilliant, Lisa it is so nice to have you on board.

Bunny, your back was giving up on you?

I have just eaten a mean curry and feel guilty, wish I did not have the meal and feel quite sick now. Especially as I said to my daughter order without me, but hey joined in. So another few pounds added.

So logged on for a while to see if any of you are up, possibly not?

Talking about dog’ did I tell you about my ‘Lad’ Tipper, he is a stray from Ireland, he is a Collie.  (We think he had belonged to a Gypsy site and strayed away) Always had dog's from pups and did not know what to expect in taking him on, a year on and he is a delight and love him to bits.

Gwinn, your Mother sounds so lovely you must share some of your stores about her to us.  I just wish I could say the same and say my Mother was still around.  She had died when I was 15 and next to me.  You are so lucky; give her a hug from me.

Re: [The Oldies]

Morning all - Bunny and Teddy are sitting up in bed with their 'puters.... it's a fine spring day and there are no Hot Flashers to talk to here......

Rubyjo - curry!! Yum..... I love it.  Hope you're feeling OK now.  We had my sister and her man over for dinner last night and I can experiment on them because they're family.... but it was not a great success foodwise - I was disappointed with myself.

I cooked Daube of Beef - lots of beef and a pork hock in the oven with vegetables and lots of red wine for 16 hours at 100 degrres celsius - it was OK but not great.  I made some celeriac and potato roesti and a turkish spinach salad... again just OK, and for dessert a sicilian cassata cake.

But I did have great success with making bread - I found a recipe where you don't have to knead it and it came out wonderfully - I'm going to make 2 more batches today and put some rosemary and parmesan in one of them and try making pizza bases with the other.  So I'll check in later - hope you are all having a lovely weekend.  XXX

Re: [The Oldies]

Afternoon Bunny, it is 12.43 here in the UK.I feel fine now, knew I should not have joined in for that meal last night.  But I do love a Curry and temptation got in the way. Bunny, you are doing it to me now reading your recipe Daube of Beef and Pork Hock it sounds delicious what do you think girls we go and crash round Bun’s and Ted’s for a meal Ha’ shall we all book a flight : O )

I have just put a traditional Sunday Roast on and preparing my veg’s, Strawberry Cheesecake for afters.

It is a glorious afternoon here in the UK with beautiful Blue Sky’s and plenty of Sunshine; our summer has come very late and will be gone before you know it as our autumn just round the corner.   Bun’s we have a lovely Lady called Lisa joined us from Texas, can you just imagine her lovely weather all through the year, correct me if I am wrong here Lisa.  And Bun’ your headed for you summer.

I will stay logged on for a while, as I know some of you guy’s are different in time frames, so will keep up with you as much as I can.

Bunny, I have not put forward the topic for a few days as Gwinn as been great, with this side.  Do you fancy putting something for us gal’s to talk about for the new few days?

Hope you and Ted have a lovely day/evening and speak soon. coeur

Re: [The Oldies]

Morning everyone.. Bunny on line and as usual 'cause she's at the bottom of the world you are all probably asleep.  Is it too uncomfortable to talk about the world financial crisis?  Anyone affected?  Personally I had my pennies saved for m old(er) age .... invested in shares that have bottomed..... so I won't be travelling first class in the future .... not that I have up to now but I was looking forward to being able to be a bit more extravagant in the future... oh well, I'm still very happy with my life and money can't buy happiness - or a Teddy!!!

Re: [The Oldies]

every sunday morning my brother, sister-in-law, and i as well as another couple all go out to breakfast. they all have many thousands of dollars in savings IRAs stocks bonds investments real estate etc. i'm 46 and i just started a small retirement account this year.  maybe i'm unwise. maybe i've spent my money foolishly.  i've been a single working person all my life. saving has not been easy.  i really have nothing to loose if the economy collapses. i also realize that what i do have will be lost if we go into a depression like the great depression.  i understand  that many people with a little money made a lot of money during the depression buying land from those that could not keep up with mortgages. maybe history will soon repeat itself.

like i always used to tell my mom when i was young and she was working, "don't worry so much> we are going to live til we die"  i may retire to a less than luxurious life style, but what will worrying about the future change? about as much as regretting the past.

Re: [The Oldies]

Gwinn, do you really think the outlook is that bad? I know if the USA collapses so does the rest of the world.  I think we panic to much, feel we ought to just ride this one out for a while longer.

But, can I just say a revolt is felt in general.

Re: [The Oldies]

Gwinn, I had to send you this Joke that is doing the rounds in the Offices in the UK, I thought it was funny and seeing this is the ‘Hot Flashers’ thread and very grown up I thought I would post it.

“The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate.
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs,
If we purchase a computer it will go to India,
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras,
and
Guatemala,
If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan,
If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan…
….and none of it will help the American economy.
The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, beer and cigarettes, since these are the only products still produced in the US.â€
Interesting take on the ‘flat world’! bave
