Its been a while since i last worked and i want to get back into work again now. I'm thinking about applying for a job at a local supermarket, however right now i don't really have any suitable clothes for a job interview (nothing smart enough really), so i'm going to try and find some good clothes for a job interview before applying for any jobs.
Anyways, i was out shopping with a friend of mine the other day and i was discussing the whole job interview clothes thing with her at one point. I said i had some black knee high boots (they have a little bit of heel on them but not much, and they are plain in design) that i was thinking of wearing with a knee length skirt, smart shirt and jacket, when she immediately disagreed with me about the boots- she said knee high boots (overall) look way too "harsh" and that not everybody likes skirts, she advised that i wear some black trousers, smart shirt and plain shoes.
What do you think- do you think knee high boots are too harsh to wear for a job interview, or do you think they can look smart and sophisticated and make a good skirt look great
?
The job i am applying for is nothing special, but i still want to dress well for the interview if i get one, i really don't know what to buy right now as i don't have enough spare cash to buy smart clothes which won't work well. I don't want to overdress or under-dress for the possible interview, hmm...Any help on the matter is much appreciated ^_^ .

I definatley agree with your friend, i think the knee high boots would be too much.
You can never go wrong with a nice pair of pants and a collared shirt. And for the shoes id go for heels, but with covered toes.
Good luck

I agree with the high heeled boots being a little too harsh.
But what about wearing them Inside some nice pants with a nice smart shirt?

Whatever you choose to wear I wish good luck getting the job.
Come on and tell us how it went.

I think the boots and skirt would be fine.
but then i can't even get an interview so my opinion isn't worth much.

I think with Job Interviews it is always best to vear towards the conservative, it's a mark of respect and shows that you are taking the job seriously - whatever it may be.
I would recommend buying one good trouser suit and just matching that with a smart yet pretty blouse.
If money is tight, go on Ebay, I have purchased some great clothes on there and you can pick up an excellent bargain if you are not worried about buying a garment that has been worn once or twice.
Best of luck with the interview.

maybe a kitten heels or maybe shoes like for school (lol). Id say a blouse and a pencil skirt! i love pencils skirts but they always look so smart and businessy and cause i dont have a job, id never have a chance to wear one.
Also i think it depends what the job is, some jobs dont worry about clothes so much as others.

Thanks for the advice and kind comments everyone ^_^ , I think i'm going to give the boots a miss and look for some small flat shoes- i'm still interested in getting a skirt, although i will keep my eye out for trousers too

oh yeah, for a supermarket you will probably want to have flat shoes to work in anyway, so they will be a worthwhile investment!

The boots are a definite no and I would also avoid a skirt. You should probably stick to a conservative color pant (gray, black, navy etc). I think a nice pair of dress pants, a nice button down shirt and a pair of conservative heels would be perfect for what you're going for. Good luck!
