i do actually like the idea of community service towards charities or things like that. i mean its punishment, they get to be around and understand things, be useful to the community, and possibly be accepted into the community if they were a badly brought up kid so that they could continue the work if they wanted.
i dont kill anything either. not even mosquitos. well i mean on purpose. ive stepped on a few snails =/ but im not a vegetarian. one day i shall be, when im living by my own rules. but i dont think its that huge an abuse, and even if everyone went vegetarian the world for animals wouldnt work as we seem to need a use for everything.
I've come very close to becoming a vegetarian myself (meat, unfortunately, tastes to dang good), for the same reasons.
Just think about the egg companies - what sort of treatment do you think those chickens get? In most companies, chickens spend their entire lives in cramped cages. That's no way for any living creature to live.

I agree that the boys should get councelling, that way they may be able to find out why that acted that way, however i believe that they should also have been punished eg comunity service.
Definitely. I agree with the counseling - I just wish they'd been punished.

i like vegetarian meats so that will all change. i never get why people are so bothered by other people's choices. there is nothing immoral about it and it isnt infringing on anyone elses rights. what would it matter if you werent just because you felt like it? who cares if they can get their head aroun it? its got nothing to do with them. my friend got ham thrown down her top for it.

You can get free range eggs PoodleTang.
Its your choice to eat meat. Its hard sometimes, because i dont want to enforce my views on people, but sometimes you just want to scream!
Like when people dont respect where the meat came from, 'oh its just an animal'.
Sorry i'm not giving any of you grief, im just saying how pissy annoyed i get
But yeah, i used to be pesco-vegi (only ate fish, i was 13-15, it was a good source of protein, i also really liked it), so i got loads of jip for that.
And i still wear leather, but thats my personal choice, so why do people have such a problem with it? I wear leather (yes it does bother me its made from animals), because its often a Bi product of meat (the wasted part of skin...often though, not always), and it hard to buy good quality boots and shoes that are made from other materials. I know its a a slight hypocracy...but why does everyone else have a problem with it?
And i'm so sick of people throwing 'the food chain' argument into my face, its just so annoying. especialy when friends do it. respect my choice. i respect theirs. I dont voice my oppinions when they eat meat, because i know its unfair of me to impose my views on them, they have the right to make their own choices, i dont judge them (it sounds like i do, but i dont). But when i eat salad....oh no!!!!!!!
sorry im ranting. i can get worked up. sorry.

its ok to eat fish if you want. it just depends on your reasoning in some ways. people hate hypocrisy and sometimes people feel the need to make excuses. my friend leila always said that it was different because fish eat other fish. mammals eat other mammals. most fish dont eat their own breeds commonly. not a jab at you, just at how sad it is you have to defend yourself. if you dont go around telling them what they are doing is wrong then they have no right to criticise you for your choices either way, ESPECIALLY if they are getting at the part they do themselves.

I think its safe to say, some people are just funny about some things. But at least i have good arguments when people give me grief
Ive had to use them that many times!!
Anyway...ive changed the subject, back to animal abuse!
Animal abuse sucks.

lol I know about free range eggs - I just never eat eggs period. I think breakfast eggs are disgusting.
You're definitely a vegetarian, right? When did you decide to become one? Was it hard? Sometimes I come really close but I always go back to meat. Any advice?

Yes it was hard...if you have an addiction to Meat and Patato pies...you'll know why!
I was on/off from the age 6, back then it was because my family didnt eat meat (they didnt impose their views on me). I told people i was a vegi when i ate meat (about 11 yrs old), because i felt like i shouldnt eat meat...it was silly of me to lie though!
I became pesco-vegi at 13, i just sat down to sunday tea, i was about to eat turkey...and thought 'no', it wasnt right. I continued to eat fish becaus its full of protein...and in sense weined me off meat...if you recall school dinners...it was a good choice to make !
I became a full veggi at 15...i wont go into the full resons why, but i did.
It is hard if there is alot of meat in your diet, or if you love the taste. Dont feel like you have to be a veggi, if you dont agree with animals being killed, there are other ways to show you care. Only buy meat that you know has had a good life, not battery hens, stuff like that, sorry there is a name for it but its lost to me. I know certain religions only eat cows if theyve lead a good life...sorry im awful...if someone understands what i mean please help!
Only eat meat when its a necessity...ie dont have a huge steak if you'll only eat half..
Being a vegi doesnt work for everyone, but if its something your serious about, then cut down on the meat you eat, i wouldnt advice you to go cold turkey (pun intended:P), cut out meats you arn't fond of...do it over time. Try meat substitutes like Quorn, try different vegitables, recipies ect...chances are you may not know how many meals can be made out of simple vegitables. i know resturants can be a pain, you just have to learn over time which ones offer the best food. Check menus befor you go in.
Dont feel guilty if you cant go without meat, its your choice hun, no one elses.
You can eat meat, and still care about animals!

Ok, thank you so much. It really helps and you gave some really good advise - I know I'll be taking up some of your suggestions in the future. Again, thanks!

my bimbo was nekkid? musta been changing her. lol. that is good advice. what do you make of veggie/soy/tofu meats?

Offline

I love Quorn, its great, i couldnt tell you if its healthy though, i think its a good subsitute. Linda Macartny foods are great.
I hate tofu! Youck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive not tried tofu i dont think. veggie bacon and sausages are awesome, which im assuming were soy products, and i like veggie burgers and veggie fingers, which somewhat taste different to suit.

...Veggie Fingers? I've had veggie burgers - they weren't that great. Meh maybe it was how they were made.

ooooohhhh, those are good! I'm also a sucker for a fish sandwich with fries.
I've had tofu in stir-fry before - that too, was "meh"

true in some cases. Maybe the veggie burgers I got were just made wrong. Vegetable stir fry (or Lo Mein) is pretty good though.

Depending on the situation, I would definitely recommend serving time in prison along with counseling. I just don't think that on it's own counseling is enough. People need to be taught that there are consequences for their actions, and they need to be held accountable. Regardless if it is "just" an animal, it is still extremely cruel.
The whole "it's just an animal" excuse disgusts me. It's still an innocent, living, breathing, creature that in no way deserves to suffer.
I agree, hence why I put "just" in quotations haha. I myself absolutely adore animals, and prefer them over humans most of the time. In the city I live in there is a bit of a rabbit problem. I have a rabbit (the one in my profile picture) and now the city wants to destroy these rabbits because, heaven forbid, they are ruining the landscaping of some buildings. It is extremely upsetting to me that, as humans, we feel the need to intervene with ANYTHING that is a minor inconvenience to ourselves. Anyway, point being animals are not "just" animals. They are amazing creatures that can enrich your life. This might sound silly, but my rabbit actually helped me get through a lot of hard times. He was neglected previously and not a very outgoing bunny at all. He was nervous, shy and extremely stressed out constantly because he was so fearful. Through spending time with him and showing him that I cared he turned around very quickly. Now, without hesitation he will come up to greet me when I get home from work, he sleeps with me at night and plays with me just like a cat would. As far as the hard times went, it made me feel so much better when I realized that I do have something to give to another living being, whether it is an animal or a human. It is hard to think that anyone would abuse something that is so trusting and amazing when just given the chance.
Anyway, that would be my ramble for the day.

Great, great post! Your rabbit is very cute!
I almost didn't post on here - did anyone see it? I had "69" posts! Such a "sexy number" but I just ruined it!

i bet we caused the rabbit problem in the 1st place? i mean if its messing up our livelihood thats one thing, but just butting into things that are none of our business and just taking life and death into our own hands so arrogantly like we know all and have the god-given right is just stupid and horrible. we do it with other countries sometimes too. well, my country does, but thats a different story. sometimes i agree other times i dont.

i think in some ways it was the animatrix that made me not want to kill bugs. the way we decided we were superior to the robot. there was a bit where a window cleaner squashed a fly simply for being there. it got to me. then again, the same story also made me virginitiphobic, watching a robot lady be puled apart by a bunch of human males...

Have you ever seen A.I. : Artificial Intelligence? I loved it; I won't say anything about it until you tell me whether or not you've seen it.
