in your last contest you wrote about how to change colors of things (including screenshots) -
i just tried it myself, but i don't get how it works, really

There should be a function in Photoshop that is called "Touch up" where you are able to change Brightness, Hue and Saturation. When you change Hue, you change the color. It's the most effective way to change one color item to another while keeping the item looking perfect.

Here's a really good tutorial about making selections with quick masks and you could try experimenting with the hue/ saturation brightness window ctrl+u and the blending modes... please tell me how it goes...

Yeap... I haven't found a good tutorial about this but i'll try to explain it to you... First you'll have to make a selection of the thing you want to colorize (use quick mask or selection tools) and put it in a new layer then you'll have to use the layer styles, click on the button with the "f" on it and a lot of options will appear click on blending options and the blending options window will pop up click on pattern overlay and start changing and experimenting with the different patterns and blending modes you'll find interesting effects if you use the rest of the layer styles options like inner glow and color overlay...

It's very important to use selection tools so you can edit your posts in a professional way this one is my favorite...
Cutting objects with Quick mask mode:
1. Open Photoshop.
2. Drag the picture that you want to work with
3. Click the Quick Mask mode button
4. Select the paint brush (B)
5. Begin coloring over the object in the photo. When you are in Quick Mask Mode, the paint brush will paint a light transparent red. This indicates which area you are masking off from the photo.
6. Choose a smaller brush for the edges to get more precise
7.. When you are done, click on the "Edit in Standard Mode" button.
8. You should now see your painted mask area as a selection. However this is selecting the background and we want to select the person or object, so we need to inverse the selection, press crtl+ shift+i or press Select > Inverse from the main menu.
9. The selection will now be reversed so that the selection area is that of the person or object, not the background.
10. Press ctrl+j and the selection will go to a new layer.

Hi everyone. I've had a few PMs asking me how to do simple colour changes in Photoshop. So I thought I'd post here a guide as to how I do it. Hopefully you'll find it useful. This technique works well on areas that contrast to other colours on the page. If you're using skin tones for example, you'll need to mask off the area you want to change first. Here I'm using a highly contrasting turquoise dress to demonstrate.
Step1. In the Image tab, select Adjustments, then Replace Colour. A new window will pop up.
Step 2. First, use the pipette (1) in the top left to select the colours you want to change. Use the middle tool, with the plus (+) symbol, to add to your selection. The central image (2) shows you which areas you have selected. Make sure you click on the main colour, as well as the shadows and highlights, to get a natural looking colour change. Click on the Result box (3) in the bottom right to bring up a colour palette.
Step 3. Use the slider to select the colour you would like to change to, then use the mouse to click in the target colour box to select in greater detail. I have chosen a golden colour. Click OK.
Step 4. Use the sliders at the bottom to fine tune your colour change. I have changed the lightness to make the gold look more vibrant. Make sure you click OK, otherwise all your hard work will be for nothing! And that's it.

Oh my God! Thank you so much for starting this thread! After I saw the Birthday Dress remake contest and the awesome designs people did, I asked if someone would start a thread like this and today, here it is! Let me tell you, the screen shots totally help a lot, much more than just explanations. I know it is tedious to do screenshots, but it really does help. I played with photoshop many times and could never get it to do what I wanted. I read tutorials, tried adobe help, googled what I needed and still, I was not able to do what I wanted. Your helpful advice and screenshots have done what all the other things I tried failed to do. Just looking at them and reading them, I feel like I can go home and use photoshop sucessfully! I am very excited by the prospect.

I downloaded my photoshop for free... it wasn't the latest version but I prefer it so much to Paint and PaintShop Pro. Version 7.0 is what I have... not sure what the newest is? Anywho, I downloaded from my P2P program, Ares. Same thing I use to download music. It came with the serial # and all.

Latest version is Adobe Photoshop CS3 but if you have an oldest version some things might change...
