Re: (Cleek) Bookwormzzz

I read books like that occasionally. It's nice to mix it up - like I'll be reading some serious book about a lawyer one week then the next it's some girl falling in love at the beach. Romantic stories are always fun to read (if you're that kind of girl smile)

I really enjoyed Catcher in the Rye but I understand why some may not. It was written for guys imo. I have the same problem with Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I have tried every few years since 15 to read the novel, but have never been able to. My dad and oldest brother loved it when I was growing up, all quotes the "so it goes...." line.

Re: (Cleek) Bookwormzzz

Hi! I want to be a Bookwormz!! Once I go back to work in September I may not have much time to read, but I have a ton of books and love reading.
Has anyone here read "1,000 Splendid Suns" or "The Kite Runner" I have both and am trying to decide which to read next. My husband things I'd like Splendid Suns" better.

Re: (Cleek) Bookwormzzz

Jay (my husband) said he thought I'd like 1,000 Splendid Suns better since it was more of a female perspective. Also I already saw the The Kite Runner movie and I'm afraid since I know the ending I will be less motivated to finish it somehow. I hate watching a movie before I have read the book! So I think I am leaning toward Splendid Suns...I think I'll start it tonight!

BTW, if anyone is interested in kids books, I'm a teacher and have tons of recommendations. We just read Dr. Suess' "My Many Colored Days" and I love it more and more everytime I read it!

Re: (Cleek) Bookwormzzz

I love kids books.  I take Sam to the library about 3 times a week and get new books.  He's quite the little bookworm too!   A really cute book for toddlers is "A Mud Pie for Mother" by Scott Beck

Re: (Cleek) Bookwormzzz

I have to say the most amazing kids books are 'The Enchanted Wood' series. I still have them and read them a couple of times a year, they are amazing!

Other than that ive been reading art/crime/murder novels at the moment, the latest was 'Labyrinth' by Kate Mosse. Its pretty good actually.

Edited due to bad spelling.

I just finished the constant princes by Phillipa Clark (?)  she is the same author as the other Bolyn Girl.  it was interesting.  not a must read but not too bad either.
I woud love some referrals.  I read all kinds of things in the summer I like lighter novel "brain candy" while in winter I will read something more serious or scarry

I think you mean Phillipa Gregory? I understand how in the summer you don't like heavy reading. smile Hmm... if you want romantic light stuff, I recommend Cecilia Ahern (?) who wrote P.S. I Love You. The movie was really sweet too. Actually, I liked the movie better. She also wrote, If You Can See Me Now.

I'm the same way!! Surprisingly it's a method of reading, I think called absorption and it is how life-long readers come to be. I'm so attached to the characters I read about.

I have also had this experience! Sometimes I am so into a book that I go away and come back and think I was watching television! Honestly I've gone to the bathroom, come back and thought to myself why is the tv off, then I remember I was reading  fou rire

I started a new book today April in Paris - a random one I found in my house, it hasn't totally captivated me just yet.

Oh my gosh..that totally always happens to me...i get so caught up in the book and create images for each character that i sometimes forget its only a book and not a movie! fou rire

I feel almost ashamed to tell you guys about the books i read becuase they aren't the type of "intellectual" books that you read in schools...they are simple fun romance novels that are set in modern day cities and lifestyle! I like books like the 'Shopaholic Series'...mainly because they are so light hearted and not only set in a culture that i understand but live in!  content4

I just discovered the 'Slightly Series' which follows a woman in her mid-20s as she gets dumped by her long term boyfriend, but ends up finding herself and starts dating someone new, whom she eventually gets married too! content4  content4

I know what you mean, I'm a bit like that too. I read more fantasy stuff though than romance. Sometimes it's nice to have books that you don't have to think too much about, especially if you're reading to take a break from studying or something!

I've got the Scarlet Letter out of the library though in a bid to read something a bit more serious. Anyone read it?

Great topic! No matter where I am I always have a book in my purse or tote bag. Thought I would give a few recommendations that I haven’t seen listed yet.

If you love animals: When Elephants Weep by Masson and McCarthy and Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.

Humorous contemporary romance with a country/redneck twist: anything by LuAnn McLane. Great light reading and funny.

If you’re into paranormal romance or vampires: anything by Laurell K. Hamilton. Definitely adults only!

And has anyone read The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow? I just saw his interviews and am thinking about buying the book. Anyone recommend it? Thanks!

I've heard nothing but good things about The Last Lecture. My two close friends loved it and said it was very moving. The professor just passed away last week. sad Anyhow, that's on my to read list.

And OHMYGOSH, Where the Red Fern Grows used to be one of my favorite books as a child. I cried so much at the end. It is a must read for everyone--it can truly touch the human heart. Sadly, not a lot of people seem to know about that book anymore.

It's not exactly my pick for summer read, but it's a must read I think. It's not that long or written that densely, unlike some "classics" and the story is pretty interesting. One of those books that you need to read at some point in your life. smile

I'm headed to the library after my little guy wakes from his nap.  We are there several times a week.  I'm doing the summer reading program with him.  We get points for every book I read to him.  We are going to redeem his points today, so I'll have to let you know what he gets...

You should be able to click and drag my siggie onto your desktop and then go to www.imagecave.com and download it to get the EZBoard code, then put that code in your profile.  If anyone else has an easier way, please help her!!!  ha!
