Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

Sorry but I love it...It always brightens my day to have some guy hooting at me at the store or on the street and then the look on his face when I say "Sorry sweet pea I'm way out of your league" or something to that nature...

It's always a challenge to come up with a new shoot down for guys who catcall and I do so love a challenge...

I make it a sport...Guy says something to me...Let's see how long he'll stand around letting me insult him and how long he'll try to hook up with me before finally getting the clue...

Maybe I'm just sadistic ^_~

I'm not in the UK, but yes...this type of thing bugs me, and is quite scary at time. When people whistle, make crude gestures, and say things like "Id f*ck that" It's a scary thing to hear when a group of males talk about you in such a way, I'm a human being not a slab of meat.

I don't like being stared at by old men in their 40's and up. I would never get with them so don't stare.

I think the most insulting thing about the phrase "I'd tap that" is the fact that men are referring to the woman in question as "that". Could there be anything more insulting than being dehumanized and reduced to a "that", rather than a person?

I think that predatory men who think it's their right to judge women on their appearance and judge how worthy you are to exist by how you look are pathetic. Unfortunately it seems that there are far too many men like this and it perpetuates the inequalities we face every day.

Thanks...I've had years and years and years of experience unfortunately...No matter where I go...Every day I'll have at least one guy say something to me...

My favourite is "Sorry your credit limit isn't high enough for me...Girl's gotta have goals"

One time even had a guy yell at me from his car while I was driving...He almost ran a red light and caused an accident...

It never ceases to amaze me how retarded people can be...

As obnoxious as it is though...I still sincerely like the attention...It's nice to know that I look good enough for some guy to do something stupid...

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

lol thats quite funny, but i think sometimes women asserting power of being too good for men can create a bit more hatred of the smug cow type thing. a lot of porn atm is revenge and a lot of shows are less attractive (inside and out) blokes with gorgeous girls. it seems like a necessity that they all deserve. being attractive and punishing people for being attracted is one of these things that make some guys mad. then again if these are the type of guys that think they have the right to shout at you then they can probably use being knocked down a peg! so yeah. i just hope they arent the type to think they deserve revenge for it. its cool that you can feel good rather than like a female dog when you assert yourself. one thing is that you need to be careful that with the "im complaining but i like it really" thoughts that they dont get a "yes means no" vibe from it. you know? im sure you dont but its just a consideration.

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

This kind of behavior creeps and weirds me out most of the time. I remember when I was in middle school most of the time there would be groups of Hispanic guys wandering around making all those stereotypical noises at me. Now, from every other guy it's "Hey shorty. What'chu doin?" or some  weird look they give me. Recently, I was walking to the light rail one day, this guy walked pass me, turned around, and asked me for my number. Didn't even bother to ask my name first.

I normally cover myself up so nobody sees anything they like, but that doesn't work so I've been getting more calls about my face. I try to cover my butt up with my hanging book bag now because that's what they like most. I hate hearing stuff about my butt! lol

"$#@$%!! Look at that!!!" I know it's there! Geez!

if you didnt have an butt and were tall they would make comments on that too! knowing that full well we still feel like we should cover up rather than them stop staring and shouting

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

It doesn't matter what I wear.

I absolutely hate it. I get it even in the middle of winter with my thick heavy coat on.
I get it while shopping for groceries, shopping with my husband, filling up petrol, etc.

I've been stalked and followed home before too. It was awful.
Builders are not too bad at all. Actually I prefer them as they tend to whistle out and I can easily blank them off in my head.

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

I HATE it so much! It DESTROYS my confidence! I don't know it does, when 90% of the time it's a guy saying something "complimentary" to me. If a guy just looks me up and down and says "you're gorgeous" with a big smirk on his face, I can't stand it! It upsets me so much!

I think it's cos for all I like to wear make up and dress up like a girl, I always want guys to treat me like one of them. I just tend to get on better with guys than girls ususaly. When guys comment on my attractivness/ or unatractiveness without any provocation, I'm just like "why did he do that? Can't he see that's not what I want?"

See I have a long term bf and even before I started going out with him I couldn't stand guys being so forward. I was even harassed from day to day by a complete stranger before I started going out with my bf. I reported the guy who was harrasing me, and then started going out with my bf. The combination of the two gave the harrasing guy the message, but I saw him looking with real hate at my bf.

I've had a guy staring at me for minutes on end when I was wearing....some baggy combats, and my dad's jumper (the jumper went down to my knees!). The same guy harrased any girl he could. One hot day he was in the computer room at uni (where he always was) and he said to the girl sitting next to him "you should be outside, sunbathing...topless"!!!????

Grrrr! I just want to slap these guys so much! It should be made legal! lol

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

I've had to deal with the catcalls and whistles a lot.  It's not flattering because from middle school I've had guys take it 'to far' with unwanted touching.  So, I don't think it's cute, or find it funny nor does it make me feel good. It makes me uneasy and nervous.

Not to mention, I've had a guy think I was cute at a stoplight and follow me home and I never noticed it was the same truck following me.  I only found out about it because he was with a friend telling him the story and drove by my house...this friend happened to be my friend too and he told me about it.

I just try my best to ignore them.

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

Well I had to report the guy who followed me to the police and I must say the Metropolitan Police did a great job.

His car was in his girlfriends name and they tried to deny it's his car till she found out he was following a woman home and they she 'grassed' him up!

He was 'marked', he's ran away from the police many times, he has several convictions including failure to stop, DUI, and many more.

WHo would have thought something so harmless could prove to be so awful and in some cases fatal...

Been stalked, or permanantly beeing harassed by someone, is so scary. You just feel so uneasy.

I've never had that. But there was a girl who I'd never spoken to in my life who would always stare intently at me with this look of strong dislike whenever she saw me. She never once said a word to me. I watched to see if she did it to other people, but she didn't. I don't know what was going on  hein

actually because of the rep most builders are kept on quite a tight leash. usually if you complain to the site manager they will sort it out... iunno if i would have the guts but yeah. theres good tips on that link.

if i get a "flattering" one i wanna say "dont flatter yourself love" which is the reply i would usually get for answering or getting annoyed. i never have an answer for it so im hoping they wont either.

Haha, that's good! I've been harrassed by a guy once, he got kinda dirty so I did what I had to do, went over to him and started yelling like I was crazy. I called him the worst names that popped into my mind and really embarassed him. I don't think he'll ever do this again.

I hate cat-calling and stuff like that, but once I did something very funny with a good friend of mine. We "harrassed" guys in a park. Especially the cocky ones were funny. Now each and every one of them felt kinda offended by the two of us. dang, that was fun!

EDIT: WOW! Miss Bimbo changed the word co-cky into rooster. That's cool. lolololol

Re: who has been upset by street harassment and catcalling?

I was in a nightclub with my bf, and a guy obvioulsy hadn't seen my 6ft 4 bf standing right next to me (the club was really crowded). This guy pinched my bum, and I just managed to whack his hand as hard as I could whilst his hand was still retreating. At the same time I turned to my bf to let him know what happened. The guy registered the slap, looked up into the face of my bf and ran as fast as he could to the other end of the club! lol that was hilarious!

Another time I was in a nightclub I left my bf to go the toilets. On the way to the toilet a random guy just pinched my bum! So I just ignored it and went to the toilet. On the way back from the toilets this guy sees me again and decides to give me a big sleezy smile, so I thought "oh so it was HIM!" and walked right up to him...he was grinning all over his face then, he thought he'd got lucky. He was sat at a table with all his friends and I lent down so I was right next to his ear (this is a noisy night club remember!) and I said..."DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!!!" The smile evaporated off his face, the colour drained from his cheeks, and he stammered "I'm, I'm, I'm vv..very sorry!" I think all his mates thought it was funny! Then I went over to my bf (who was only sat two tables away) and sat on his knee and told him what happened. My bf asked "do you want me to sort him out?" I said "no, it's all right the guy's scared enough as it is!"

Then I just happened to look up and I saw that the guy was looking at my bf with a look of sheer dread on his face, he looked even paler than before! He was only a very small guy (I'm 5ft 5, and I think he was about the same height or smaller than me). The next time I looked in his direction, him and all his mates were gone! lol

I thought it was hilarious and served him right! I hope he learned his lesson! big_smile

Well, "normal" women can't be really scary. But actually, it was not about scaring someone away, it was more about making a statement. In my opinion, it's all about self-confidence. You gotta show the men, that they just cannot mess around with you.

I'm quite small, but I'm very self-confident and I can also get very very loud. Most guys don't like the experience of being embarassed by a lady who calls them "pervert" or "douchebag".

ha, i find it funny because i wear headphones and they STILL talk and whistle. geesh people, take a hint.

however i do find it disturbing when they try to approach me or, god forbid, try to touch me. i threw a fit both times that happened and scared them off. the vicious look on my face when i walk down the street usually discourages people to even look twice at me.

There really is no getting through to some guys. When I was at uni I got lots of unwanted attention, much of it from foreigners. I think in some countries there is a different attitude towards approaching women.

i get it quite often but i think thats because i have big boobs (uk-30JJ) im only about a 12 jeans but i have a size 10 waist- i measured it earlier and its about 28.5 inches actually.
sometimes it doesnt bother me because i ignore it, but sometimes it winds me up because i dont want some random stranger leering at me like a piece of meat hung up at a butchers for him to examine.
i get comments no matter what i wear- i dont dress down very often, but i dont over dress at the same time, but even when i am really casually dressed - hoodie, jeans and converse with my hair tied back with buggar all make up i still get the comments and its like "eugh do i look like i want that kind of attention off you"

ha, i find it funny because i wear headphones and they STILL talk and whistle. geesh people, take a hint.

however i do find it disturbing when they try to approach me or, god forbid, try to touch me. i threw a fit both times that happened and scared them off. the vicious look on my face when i walk down the street usually discourages people to even look twice at me.

There really is no getting through to some guys. When I was at uni I got lots of unwanted attention, much of it from foreigners. I think in some countries there is a different attitude towards approaching women.

well we do have an abundance of actual bimbos who do enjoy...street attention, let's call it. odd thing is, this happened to me in almost all countries i've been to.

and it's not like i wear short pink skirts or 7inch heels or huuuge cleavages (not accusing anyone, but they usually go for that type of girls). i usually wear black jeans and black tops, which are not exactly loose, but not THAT revealing either. can't win with these people...

i think the worst offenders want nothing to do with us sexually and get off on the power and control and intimidation. the fact that they can make us change route home. they own the street and lay claim to the women on it unless they are owned by another guy, otherwise they have no right to be out of the house. dominance and manhood confidently re-affirmed
