Or Temporomandibular Joint disorder. I'm pretty sure I have it. My sister has it and I've got all the signs that she was showing before the dentist officially told her she has it. My jaw is sore and stiff and it's causing headaches. I went to sleep last night with a headache and still had one when I woke up.
Ugh... I just wish it would go away.
End rant.

Ee that sounds unpleasant. I don't know what that disorder is but I'm guessing it's not very nice! Is there a cure or treatment for it? Hope you're ok!

It's basically anything that involves the joint where your jaw connects to the temporal bone of the skull. The ligaments can swell, the bone can pop out of socket, the bones or your back teeth can grind against each other. It causes pain and stiffness of the jaw. I've taken some tylenol and I'm drinking alot of water, but it still makes my neck sore. Ugh... I'm ok, it's just really annoying.

Botox? Really... Hmmm... that's interesting. I've never heard of that. I need to talk to my dentist. Bleh...not like I didn't already need to get my teeth straightened.
If it's really bad, the dentist has to break your jaw and realign it.
Scary.

Eeee you poor thing
yeah botox I'd imagine would help...it relaxes the muscles it's injected into so it would help ease the problem.

Haha thanks
I just had an update to find some funny ones.

Don't start with BoTox!!! Wayy too expensive and there are risks. I'm in Physical Therapy school and we can actually help this problem. Unfortunately I don't have much info to give you because it's such a quick unit in school, but there are people that specialize in this area. Most of the treatment has to do with simple head/neck exercises and good posture. Posture is actually very very important. For starters your head should be centered over your neck, not sticking way out in front (most people do this, especially after sitting in front of a computer). So try and notice when your head is sticking too far forwards and pull it back and tuck in your chin. Another unfortunately, this kinda promotes a double chin
but it's worth it. Keep your lips just touching, not pushing hard together or open wide and try to relax your jaw.
That's just off the top of my head, but you should look into either physical therapy or physiotherapy, depending on which side of the Atlantic you are from!!

My dentist gave me a kind of retainer thing to put on my teeth when I sleep at night. It changes the angle of the jaw so that I can't grind my teeth and damage the joint. Perhaps your dentist could do something similar. The cheaper ones are a rubbery material for about $100. >.> I use my actual invisaligner retainer nowadays, though.

If you're in Canada it's physiotherapy too!
That's some great advice there. I have had short bouts of this disorder as well and physio helps a lot. I forgot about it until you mentioned it.

I have TMJ as well... no fun. It acts up more when i am stressed out, and gives me killer head aches, and my jaw hurts most days... ug My sister & i both have it as well...
my dentist told me to make sure i do not clench my jaw a lot, and a good habit is to put your toung on the rough of your mouth because you cant clench than...

Oh my, I feel for all of you. That really sucks. I hope you feel better.

I have TMJD as well... had it for 15 years.
I can't tell you the last time I've been able to enjoy chewing gum or corn on the cob. People always look at me strange when I have to cut the corn off the cob before I eat it.
I was prescribed a mouthpiece as well and I can say it's helped a lot, but hasn't corrected the underlying problem completely.
