Forum Changes

Since we have such a phobia regarding the search button, I think it might be helpful to reorganize the forum. I am proposing the following:

1) Announcements section - Instead of the forum home page being the forum index, I think the home page should be the announcement section. I also think there need to be MORE announcements coming from Admin and Mod. For example, if the admin and mods know the challenge room is down, there should be a sticky in the announcements that will be updated when it is fixed.

2) Announcement section - I think all announcements should be locked as soon as the mod or admin posts the original message. If things need to be added to the post, the mods or admins can unlock the thread and then relock. This will ensure that additional "important" information is not on page 34 of an annoucement and hiddent between multiple "thank yous".

3) Announcement section - I think past announcements need to be cleaned up to mimic my #2 idea. (I would be more then willing to help with this)

4) Email - I think there should be a generic MOD email like there is a support email that all mods could log into and "work" from. Since we never know who and when mods are online, this would be extremely helpful.
Added 7.20 - OR, there could be a special forum where users can POST in but not READ that the mods had access to. That way we could post in that forum and then only the mods could see it and all the issues would be in one placed. If this was implemented, $5 would not be necessary, but would still be nice.

5) Online notification for mods and admin - I have mentioned this before but would like to mention it again. It would be extremely helpful to add another box to the left hand navigation that lists all the names of the mods. If a mod is online, there is a star or it says "online" or SOMETHING so we know who is online and when.

Added 7/20:

6) Topic names - any chance that the mods could start working on structuring or getting the word out or something that thread names like "HELLLLLLLP!!!!!" and "CHALLLLENGES!!!!" is not really condusive to a well designed forum. It is very hard to emphasize the ability to use the search function when threads are not named properly.

Re: Forum Changes

Good ideas. We may also need the search function in big flashy neons and 10ft high.

Re: Forum Changes

Maybe educate new comers of the search button? I certainly didn't know about it when I joined... Heck, I hadn't even found it on Ma Bimbo, which I'd been on for a year (I was studying French).
Maybe someone should write a beginners guide so that people know these things when they join =]

Re: Forum Changes

1) I think this change will make the forum much more confusing for new comers and harder to navigate. More focus should be put on that area though, maybe moving it to it's own section and making it stand out more.

2) Thank yous are not needed, we are gratful for the work the staff do but several pages after every thread are just not constructive. I think this is a brilliant idea.

3) I think this would be handy, just delete everything not by a mod/admin.

4/5) I do not think you need to know when a Mod is online. If you have a problem with the game you should be either looking in the Bugs forum where a mod can easily reply or using the support email. If you are reporting someone the mod will just deal with it when they are next one. I see no need for a online/offline list either as this would just cause the mods online to be flooded with messages making it actually harder to do their job well.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Thank you for your input. Anyone else care to speak on these two in particular? My intention is certainly not to overwhelm the mods that are online, but instead allow us to notify the current mod instead of PM all of them so you know someone gets it. A prime example would be that I know BimboKatrina is currently on vacation from Bimbo. Does EVERYONE know that, or are they PMing her every day expecting a response?

Re: Forum Changes

Bumping because I added to #4 & #6. Apparently "editting" a post does not bring it to the forefront.
