It depends on the kind of event...normally a dress as its smart but also can be casual

Skinny jeans or my bubblegum blue velvet ripper skirt, sparkly top, really brightly coloured flats or trainers, legwarmers, and OTT makeup. Oh, and a statement coat. If you are going to be walking anywhere outside, ALWAYS bring a coat.
