I wonder how does it work that most of people that call themselves goths are about 15 years old.

Does age matter? We've been bought up to label.

Fat , thin, chav , emo etc

I meant that there's a lot of kids who just pretend that they're goths, because they want to be noticed and to be different and oryginal, so instead of being really oryginal they copying others' style and start to listen to music they really do not like, but lie themselves that they do _-_ or they think they're goths by listening to some kind of music, but it's really crappy and no one of 'real goths' is listening to it.
Um... basically i meant that there's a lot of young people who just pretend that they're goths, but they will be the same as the others soon.

Re: Goth And Get Frowned Upon. Yet Rolemodel In School

I think most people grow out of it eventually, with me it was pretty early, i passed through the whole emo/goth thing by 16 and found myself as at 17. now im just plain and normal. love to dress smart and cant make fun of girls wearing pashminas cos i own about 10 now!! haha

its a process and you can call yourself whatever you want. i think being goth emo preppy whatever helps you pass through and find what you're really going to be by your adult years.

the only thing that never wears off is chav, they stay the same forever, but unfortunatly thats a socio-economic factor (ie how much money they have). and its not their fault they dont have alot of money and a poor standard of living....thats the government to blame! loll!

I Label my self as goth , we have the right to label ourself.

I Like to wear elegant clothing , i don't want to show my skin , i don't like a lot of the latest trends. People may not call me goth , but they don't have the right.

Im sooo agree with you. Im a goth too. Some people can label us "freak", or whatever.
But i think, the first impression cares.....

After almost 30 of years being an "outsider" I have come to the conclusion, after much questioning of "insiders," that a LOT of it is just flat out envy and jealousy, after all, they don't have the cajones to be all that they truly want to be, don't have the fortitude to wear "that dress" that they love so much, don't have the courage to admit they like that song/movie/whatever to their "friends."

I've found thats the case, at least for some people.

As for the others, they really do think that whatever is in fashion this season is "better" then what everyone else is wearing. (I really think it's a classist way for them to feel bigger then others, because they're small and petty) But at least they and we can both agree that what each other is wearing looks horrid  cool

So true.... it seems like the people who are the "biggest" goth - wearing expensive dresses, boots imported from Europe, listening to bands based on what label they're on (Metropolis LOL), etc. - are the same people who, in their mid20s to 30s will say "oh, I *used* to be gothic"

Re: Goth And Get Frowned Upon. Yet Rolemodel In School

If I labled myself, I'd proudly wear the tag of a Metalhead with Gothic influences, as I alternate between band shirts and classic old-style clothes. I just like dressing that way!

However, people at my school constantly feel the need to tell me (because, of course, they know me better than I know me) that I'm a Satanist and that I'm depressed and emo because I wear a bit...okay a lot... of black clothing, and shirts from bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. If they bothered to actually get to know me, I actually consider myself one of the happiest people I know, I can't help being optimistic, and I can't stop laughing!

As for people not wanting to make friends outside their 'sub-culture', I've seen that. Some people just want to whinge and moan about being too 'different' for the 'normal' kids. They just see being 'different' as another fashion trend.
It's like the whole thing about some (definitely not all) emos screaming about how non conformist they are, when they are just happily conforming to the emo stereotype because they think it's cool.

I have friends from all groups, I happily get along with the jocks, popular girls, goths, emos, metalheads and everything in between. Only some of the people in those groups won't look at me unless it's to insult what I'm wearing or make some stupid comment like "Why don't you go bite the head off a bat" (it's happened.)

In conclusion, some people will always judge others by the clothes, and some people won't. It can be harder to find people that won't judge, but they're definitely there somewhere. I should know, I proudly consider myself one of them.

end rant here. Sorry about that. Got kind of out of hand.
