Had the problem. Went to the doctor and was put on 2 types of creams.
Differin is one and it worked well for me. Everybody's skin type is diffferent.
Took about 2 months to clear it up.
It just takes time.
Good Luck!!!

clean and clear worked for me i used the blackhead cleaner even though it was for spots but it's so strong it just clears everything out of your pours. Also some doctors will prescribe the contraceptive pill to balance the hormones out to stop you getting out breaks.
Hope you find help

Oh , another thing is my doctor told me to stay away from :
Dark sodas , Choc , Nuts and Peanut butter

you should also stay away from greasy foods. the grease gets on your hands and if you touch your face it transfers onto it. I had bad acne too and the best advice I can give you is as follows:
!. dont wash your face more than 2 times a day (messes up your oil glands)
2. dont touch your face or pick at it.
3. drink lots of water
4. use foundation (if you wear it) that wont clog your pores (such as bare minerals)
5. wash your pillow case once a week
hope this helps!

That would be gross, but funny.

I tried pro-active and stuff, but it only made my face itchy.
Went to the doctor and got 394810923812 things to try.
Got put on birth control and it cleared up.
Hooray artificial hormones!
But Burts Bee's has some nice facewashes and such.
I used to use Clearasil, but I dropped some on my carpet and it bleached it.
Kinda freaked me out.

i used to wear foundation all the time which obviously made my skin worse because it clogs everything up! but i started using moisturiser with a hint of fake tan in it AFTER cleansing, washing, toning - and now that i have a natural base colour, all i need to use is concealer and to be honest, my make looks the same as it did with foundation...the only difference is my skins becoming a lot clearer!

i had real bad acne.
you just have to put on the creams and toothpaste and wait for it to go.

docs also say dont squeeze spots cos it make them worse...
LIE.
if you get all of it out, they go soooo fast...but it does hurt

If you live in a big busy city you have to be more careful.
I wake up and shower and do my acne treatment routine, with l'oreal products, and wash my skin properly and all, but I go out and when I get back home my skin feels so clogged with pollution again.
So I started carrying out some towel-like products to clean it during the day. We can't overdose it though, because makes skin more sensitive and it will get worse. I'm 21 now though and taking the pill, doing daily proper washing and moisturoizing but still I get some imperfections. My skin looks a lot better than when I was more of a teen though.

Firstly, ignore rubbish about foods. There is no scientific basis to that and I am surprised someone's doctor still believes in that. There is also no scientific basis to the drink more water nonsense.
It is purely a hormonal thing and you are genetically programmed to be susceptible or not. Its not how clean you are and the person who said don't wash your face too much is absolutely correct, as you will overstimulate your oil glands and make the situation worse.
Finally, keep going to your doctor and trying everything they have. Everyone responds to different things. In extreme cases, if you can't get anything to work, the doctor will refer you to a dermatologist who will try some extreme medicine called roaccutane with you. Although, roaccutane has been linked to depression in recent studies, so they are probably less willing to prescribe it now than they have been in the past.

yep, water is just all around good for your complexion.

The reason I said the point about water is because, eg, beauty magazines make a lot of fuss about drinking water. In fact, it is just important to stay hydrated and it doesn't matter if you drink squash or something rather than pure water. It is also important not to drink too much water!

You are right about that. I read in a paper that a boy died during a college hazing from water poisoning. Apparently they made him keep drinking, and drinking it and his body shut down. before reading that I had no idea there was such a thing as water poisoning.

I actuallt took Acutane in college, wicked stuff, and it all cleared up for years. Part of the reason for the acne in college was probably all the partying. Ha! Now I use Aveda's Outer Peace to keep my skin nice. Its good for over 25 skin because it doesn't make your face dry and flaky.

I find using savlon (its meant for cuts, scratches etc) really works. If you leave it on overnight the spots are gone by morning

Just a heads up, Bare Minerals CAN cause acne.

I've found that the Simple face wash works really well. I wash my face twice a day with it, tone and moisturise, and I use a light foundation from The Body Shop - its not oil free, but it still works well on my face as I tend to have quite dry skin.
I think that drinking water is definately key to good skin - I sometimes forget this part!
If it's just small break outs, I have found that getting some sun really helps to clear them up!

i have oily skin and i found that tanning for a little while can help out although i know i know tanning is soooo bad for u blah blah but just doing it for a short while worked wonders for me also just washing with medicated soaps every late faithly worked well
also i had a friend who had a very bad case and once she started on birth control it cleared up greatly

NEVER use your fingers to put on makeup with, Always clean your brushes and sponges well. They harbor bacteria and thats never good for the skin, My trick is to put my sponges in a cup of hot water and microwave them. For acne, proactive really does work wonders.

That sponge idea is great! I'll definately have to try out that one!

It's ok to use fingers, but only if you wash your hands really well right before.
