Re: What are your views on religion?

Why are females so argumentative with each other? I really don't get why we can't just go on with ourselves. We ALL have very different opinions-it's that obvious. So I think everyone just needs to stop the arguing and fighting and get on with their lives.

Once upon a time...
I fell in love...
And when I did, I fell hard for him.
It just so happens, that the one thing I ever wanted,
was the one thing I never received...
All I ever wanted and needed was for him to catch me when I was falling,
and hold me there on Cloud 9.

This is how I feel on the subject. Being in the medical field I've always been a bit scientific on my views, yet am also very spiritual. I'll break it down:  I look at nature from a particular perspective. I see an orderly, beautiful universe in which nearly all physical phenomena can be understood from a few simple mathematical equations. I see a universe that, had it been constructed slightly differently, would never have given birth to stars and planets, let alone bacteria and people. And there is no good scientific reason for why the universe should not have been different. Many good scientists have concluded from these observations that an intelligent God must have chosen to create the universe with such beautiful, simple, and life-giving properties. Many other equally good scientists are nevertheless atheists. Both conclusions are positions of faith. Recently, the philosopher and long-time atheist Anthony Flew changed his mind and decided that, based on such evidence, he should believe in God. I find these arguments suggestive and supportive of belief in God, but not conclusive. I believe in God because I can feel God's presence in my life, because I can see the evidence of God's goodness in the world, because I believe in love and because I believe that God is love. Does my belief in God make me a better person than others? Hardly. I know plenty of atheists who are better people than I am. I do think that this belief makes me better than I would be if I did not believe. Am I free of doubts about God? Hardly. Questions about the presence of evil in the world, the suffering of innocent children, the variety of religious thought, and other imponderables often leave me wondering if I have it right, and always leave me conscious of my need to know more. But, this is what pushes me to learn more about my Creator, which is why I choose to attend church. For me, God is similar to the wind. I can't see Him, but I sure can feel Him working in my life. And that is all I need. I typically am very private about my religious beliefs, for fear of personal and malicious attacks. But, since we are claiming this thread to be one purely for intellectual conversation and views, I felt this thread needed someone's opinions, beliefs, and thoughts from a perspective different than what's already been posted. I am a Christian and am extremely proud to say so. Call it a foolish superstition, call it being naive, call it what you will. But, only I truly know what is in my heart and the reasons behind my belief in God. I will never be one of those Christians who force my views on anyone else, nor do I ever judge those who choose not to believe. It's just not my place to do so, and that is a lesson I've learned because of my faith. I accept people just as they are, with hopes that others will do the same for me... big_smile

I am 100% with you. I thank you putting such a GREAT perspective on here :] It is exactly how I believe in religion. However, I don't work yet! lol.

im atheist, i have no problem with religion, i just hate having it shoved in my face if you understand what i mean. i really dont like having to answer the door to people trying to convert me from a non believer to a believer. not my kind of thing.

I know that feeling... Happens to me atleast once a week when I stand and wait for my bus home or to work.. I need to change buses and there is about 40 minutes or so beteween the changes, so I usually sit down and wait at the busstation.. Then it happens: mormones comes up to me and it doesn't matter if I am hooked up to the mp3 player, they want to chat about the one true religion..

I am not baptisted and I do not believe in religions and I do not believe in God in that way either. I am sure there is some kind of God and so, but I am more into Mother nature, she is the one who decides how things goes here in the world and just like a woman; do not cross her, cause she can be revengeful..

Anyway.. I always try talk my way out of the chat with the mormones, but it doesn't work.. I have told them I don't believe in god (it was like a swear word) That I am catholic (my father is it) then they tried to convert me.. No matter what I say, they always try and convert me. I mean, can't they take a no??

As I have said earlier, I do not have anything against religions, just that I am not fussed about it, will never be fussed about it and there is no way to convert me. End of story

I hope that I didn't offend anyone...
