Ganguro is okay. It's not something I'd do, but it's definitely interesting to see.

Hey, don't be so serious! It is just funny look! They just tried to change a lot. Japanise girls have dark hairs and eyes, that's why they want to be hot blondies with blue eyes, is it something bad?
i'm Asian and i love my dark hair and brown eyes. I know Asians that do the blonde hair/blue eye look and I think they look trashy. Why not embrace the beauty that you were born with?
Hopefully this look is just a phase for younger girls...that's just my opinion...sorry if this offends anyone.

The fake tan is way too much. Asians have beautiful skin naturally, and gorgeous hair.

American women try to do the same thing, they try very hard to look like something they aren't so men will find them more attractive. I wont buy into that whole thing.

I love it! I think it's so fun! Sure it's kind of hideous but they're young and they're having fun with their looks. I'd dress up all crazy too if I could get away with it. I did dress up like ganguro once but it was only in my apt and my roommate and I were having loads of fun making ourselves look crazy. I think we scared our neighbors. hehe

You don't have to talk bad about Japan.. I could talk about the US bad if I wanted to and quite frankly, that ticked me off bad enough to do so.. almost. You guys don't understand our culture (I live in JP.) at all.. and then when you hear things about it, you hear the negative. When we hear things about US it normally negative. It just depends on where you are and who you're hearing it from. kk thnx.

The impression I got from the Japan discussion was quite the opposite. I don't think people were trying to badmouth Japanese culture. I think most people only see the positive side of Japanese culture and don't understand the reasoning behind the rebellious nature of these styles so others were trying to clear it up and show that not everything is shiny and happy in Japan and that it's a real place with a complex culture. That's what I got from it anyway. Please don't be angry.

aaaaaand not sure how much credence I'd give to someone with such an offensive user name

i dont think it should be for everyday wear it looks like she should be on a catwalk or in a photo shoot. and way too much fake tan is wrong you do look like you have eaten too many carrots.... asian hair is so nice and shiny i dont know why they want to wreak it with all that dye

im really not a fan of anyone having orange skin, and the white eyemakeup just makes it all the worse!

Precisely none from me, I'm afraid.

Sorry but... I really think this looks more like a disguise, actually...
I understand what they are rebelling against, but I don't find the looks cute as an "everyday fashion"...

"Tolerant" isn't the first word I'd use to describe Japanese culture...
As for the ganguro girls, I'm weirdly fascinated by their tendency to have less than perfect personal hygiene. Even Japanese punks look so freshly scrubbed, but these girls often look downright filthy.
It's freakish and odd and amusing and I actually enjoy the style. It's so hideous it's fun.
In my (admittedly limited) experience, it's not so much that they're dirty as that the intense levels of tanning makes people look grubby. Combine that with a couple of trowels of make-up that smears in hot weather, and you rapidly end up looking like you just went dumpster diving... Urgh.

I wouldn't stand next to one of them. I'm affraid of clowns

I see what you mean, it's just that the combination of grimy skin and rank perfume = dirty in my mind. In my (also admittedly limited) experience, they sometimes sort of exude filth. Also, the fake tan grime reminds me so vividly of someone I went to school with who couldn't put on foundation if it meant her life and always used a far too dark cream. Picture her neck after an hour in the sun... *shudders*
And as I mentioned, even Japanese punks look so soapy fresh, lol. I'm sure if they go punk style aggressive and spit on someone the saliva smells minty. To me, it's sort of refreshing to see these blatantly grubby girls.

Except ganguro girls are not dressing like that so men will find them attractive.. Quite the opposite in fact. They don't care if men find it unattractive.

Ganguro girls seem like the equivalent to an American punk. Outrageous eye makeup, contrasting hair color, and decisive use of untraditional clothes. Everything meant to make a person stand out as a defiance to conformity.
I don't think it's bad, it's more of a statement than a fashion.

i personally don't like it when someones skin is darker than there hair, or there lip are paler than there skin.... but then there are always exceptions and if your confident then you can usually pull i off!!
just looked at my bimbo and she is tanned with blond hair so i guess i'm hypercritical :S my bad!

I wasn't talking badly about Japan, the style seems fun and unique.

No. LOquence is right. By dressing the way they do and wearing that make up they are rebelling against the set ideal of beauty in Japan (pale skin, dark hair)
I thought it was the other way. It looks like they're conforming to the western idea of beauty.

I thinks it can look kind of cute if they won´t over do it, but my mm would never let me out with a style like that....
