perhaps if it werent for them the obesity problem would be worse because kiddies would have no one to want to look like

It makes me feel disguisted, i had an eating disorder and media and size 0 models played a big role in how i feel about my own body. Eating and being happy is better than starving yourself to bones and unhappiness.

Being skinny is great as long as your skinny in a healthy way. If you are hurting your body then it isn't worth it. If you are eatting right and working out and keeping active then thats great. But if your starving yourself then its not worth it. That isn't a good role model for kids.
When I was little we weren't allowed to eat fast food and crap food all the time or sit on our asses all day long playing video games. My parents put me in swimming lessons ever since i was in kindergarten, then once swimming lessons were complete i took bronze medalion and lifesaving and was on a diving and swimming team,  I played baseball from grade 1-12, was on the schools soccer team, played recreational hockey in the winter, and volleyball in junior high. I also grew up on the farm so lots of my free time was spent outdoors. Parents need to be involved with there children more and get them involved. Help them make healthy choices early on so they can do it on there own.
I live on my own now (obviously) and rarely do we do take out or eat kraft dinner. Always home cooked healthy meals. It all begins where the heart is.
So greatdj you can pull your head out of your ass and realize that maybe you are the only one thats jealous of the size 0 models.

I agree with the fact that people need to set an example from the start in order to have a healthy eating habit, but not everyone grew I grew up in the country as well and am very active but I now  live in a city where there is a lot of temptations and sometimes eating healthy is not a choice.  When I'm in a hury I dont have time to look for a health food store and there are times after work when I'm too tired to cook.  Size 0 models are not the norm in society.  The average woman is a size 12 (US) and everytime you open a  magazine or  the tv all you see are rail thin women and that is not normal.  That is not jealousy most of these women feel but critism telling them that they are too fat.  I work in the beauty industry and I have treated models and actresses alike and they look nothing like the pictures they are in and are always starving themselves or going on some crazy diet. All they are doing is setting an unhealthy example for the rest of us.

I agree with absolutley everything your saying. Except I don't work in the beauty industry. I work in a kitchen part time and am a substitute teachers aid. very far from the beauty industry. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was praising myself for always being healthy. Which I am not. I don't always eat healthy. I love egg mcmuffins and chocolate pudding and i wear a size 14 which i guess makes me a plus size.
Sorry for how it came out, once i get passionate about talking about something I could go on forever.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

I've modeled, and I don't really like the way it makes me feel about myself. I've always been small, but as soon as I got out of school, I put on a little weight. I'm actually still a size 4, but I used to be a 0. WHEN I WAS 16. Photographers don't really like working with a size 4, and nobody wants to book one. It's really sad that I'm made to feel like a cow and feel pressure to lose weight quickly and by any means possible.

Bottom line, discriminating against models larger than a size 2 is dangerous. It really does have a very palpable impact on young, impressionable minds. I've been on the verge of anorexia, and I've thrown up my fair share of meals. And I consider myself to be a strong, secure, and confident woman. Anybody can become victim to that kind of pressure.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

It's a hard one, designers use 0 models as human coat hangers saying their designs look better on them. But in my opinion the models should be the size of the costumers who buy the clothes and the designers should design clothes that look better on larger models (not only upsize but 2's and 4's as well) because there is no way the majority of their costumers are 0's.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

The average woman is a size 14.  Some years back, marketing leaders realized this, and began taking an effort to use sized 14 models, in an effort to represent the majority of consumers.  This resulted in an outcry from the consumer public, who stated that the sized 14 models were "disgusting".  Marketing resumed it previous standards as a result.

Spain recently had a fashion show that banned underweight models from it's runway. It was unheard up, but unfortunately the other, bigger shows didn't follow suit.  It was stated that clothing just "looked better on slimmer women".

It's a fustrating thing... if I'd pursued fashion design rather than animation I'd probably have tried to design clothes for the larger ladies, such as myself.  Yes, I realize obesity is a problem in the US, but it's not easy to beat.  Food is a compelling addiction, and everyone HAS to eat. smile  Sometimes I feel like larger ladies are being punished by the difficulty there is to be found in nice looking attire that fits (ie, not Mumu's...).

I'm a model myself (editorial, not commercial) and I frequently have shoots with other models, they always scare me. My hips are a little too big for a model, so I have curves, but all the models I've worked with.. they were completely straight, like little boys!
I don't think thats pretty, but they dominate the runway, I wish designers would use more curvy models, but they dont. And this way we (the curvy ones) are being pressed into working out a lot, eating less etc. just because we don't fit in the clothes!

I'm a size 0 in tops and most dresses and a size 2 in jeans. I don't diet btw, I'm naturally this way, but I'm being pressured on working on my hips.

It's crazy!

I aspire to be a fashion designer one day, after my career as a model has ended, and I will only use models of size 2 and higher x___x just to show them.

Oh What is with this so called new size "0"  What is wrong what ever happened to good old fashioned inches, and CM.  \Does anyone remember a 36/26/38/ ??? I was a bit tripped out the first time I went into a trendy shop and saw a size 0.......  I thought it meant I was a nothing when it fit perfectly.  I'm even a bit embarrased about it, even after two babies.  I sometimes wonder why in some stores I'm a Five and others a 0.  Is it really just playing on your feelings, of thinness?  Ok  I'm sorry for the questions, that are soul seeking type.  I love being a common size 5. Though I did think I was a bit sexier believing I'm a ZERO for about one second.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

No size should be banned, however, models should never be told to lose weight! I think they should accept models of all body types, and have 0-4 model clothes made for small bodies, 6-12 for average, and 14+ for fuller figures. If we just had a wider range of models, it wouldn't be so bad. There needs to be less of a preference for size 0 models. If anything, there should be a preference for size 4-8... it's still smallish, but it's a realistic size that most women could attain.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

I also think there is some confusion about sizing and whatnot. People say that size 0 models are too skinny, etc, etc. Well, I'm a 0, and I'm certainly not too skinny.  In fact, I'm pretty well proportioned in my opinion.  The models I see in magazines and runways look way smaller than a 0 to me.  A 0 can be healthy depending on their overall body structure. But I guess the models have to be a 0 since you can't get lower than that???  I loved that some other countries tried to ban underweight models. That should become an industry norm.  I think you can be at the lower end of your weight spectrum and model, but under it and you should only be allowed backstage by the food table!

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

I don't think sizes should be banned, I think it should be based on whether s/he is clinically underweight. Somebody who's 5'1 might fit a size 0 perfectly, while someone who's 6'1 will look very little. (Obviously there aren't, eh...many 5'1 models, but I hope the idea makes sense)
I'd like to see it based on BMI not sizes.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

Women should definetly be packin a little extra meat...what is wrong wit a little extra around ur waist, and extra padding on ur bum. Surely bones are not sexy! I think that if most girls were as skinny as they think they want 2b they will still not be happy...cos generally people aren't really happy within themselves. I'm certainly still trying to be...I've stopped taking notice of these size 0 models, but I know other still girls are and cos of that I think size 0 models have got to go!!!!!!!!!

I certainly see there is lots of different ideas about beauty. Skin and bones wont do it.  I hate a 'brand name' that promotes such un-healthy behaviour.  Yes I will not get my children anything from a fast food place, or anything just 'cause the model was a' -1 ' .  Beauty is in the eye of the looker/husband/ buyer.  If your buying then, will you really look that great in a size 10 version? so step up and eat.  You just might not faint when your prince comes over to kiss you.

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

so called average women should stop comparing themselves with models for starters...they are the EXCEPTION not the norm, thats why they are the models....
personally i think just having one type of models in the industry stiffles creativity and i desagree that clothes look better on tall skinny girls...
But the fashion industry is not to blame for why women feel bad about their bodies, women themselves are also to blame...
How often do you see a magazine telling you how to lose weight in a short amount of time, or how some famous person did it, or how cellulite is unslightly (personally i dont really care)...
Eating disorders and women wanting to be thin is nothing new, but in the world of globalization we are taking it to the extremes....
When magazines with diet tips on the cover sell well its a cue for the magazine editors to do another cover on diets on how fat YOU are; so if we stop or avoid buying such mags it wont be on our faces everyday!

I'm a size 9, I've had a baby and it's been hard getting back down. I don't really care what size a model is, as long as she is healthy. The worst thing is to see skin and bones, I feel bad for them. It's not healthy or beautiful. Now if your naturally that small, work it girl! big_smile

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

give them a burger... but sometimes they're just dead skinny

what i hate is the skinny people backlash! i.e. fatties gettin ragin when they cant find clothes to fit them and complaining and pointing out how "disgusting" it is when somones dead skinny. if someones naturally really thin it can affect their confidence just as mch as someone whos naturally overweight and i think the media backlash against thin people is so wrong, and just in favour of the majority of the population who seem to be overweigt..

Re: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SIZE 0 MODELS?

I think everyone is beautiful but I just don't like it when people force themselves to be a certain size. Some people are naturally sized 0 and lower, they don't have to change because they are already beautiful. Other shapes and sizes are beautiful too. I just don't like it when people starve themselves or try to overfeed themselves just to be a size their natural body find it hard to be.

0 sized models are fine as long as they are healthy.

Plus sized models are gorgeous too as long as they are healthy also.

Models should be people who are comfortable with themselves, confident and can carry the clothes they are wearing smile  content4

If you are 4'10 (147 cm), like some Spice Girls, being size zero is not such a serious problem.

If you are 5'10 (178 cm), like some fashion models, being size zero is probably going to cause serious health issues for you.

I've heard that skinny models are preferred because of the way the clothes 'hang' on their bodies.  I think the best way to deal with the social impacts of size 0 models is education about health- nutrition, healthy body weight, cardiovascular exorcise.

Some of them can be really ugly!    hein
