My face is really dry and at times looks quite 'flakey' (mainly around my mouth/nose & cheeks) I put foundation on to cover it up yet it makes it look even more dry, etc. I moisturise all the time and have tried loads of different creams, etc.
Has anyone got any tips/advice for foundations to use? or just general advice?
edit - i know people may suggest that no foundation would be best and to let my skin 'breathe' but its like a circle.. i need the foundation to cover the 'blotchiness' but long term it doesnt do much good :s

exfoliate.

Exfoliate, take your makeup of before you go to bed, invest in a good moisturiser and use a moisturising face wash like E45 wash. It does smell a little medical, but a squirt of perfume or body spray on your clothes should cover that straight up.

Exfoliate, only a few times a week if your skin is very sensitive. Use a thick moisturiser the moment you get out the shower so it absorbs better. Before applying your makeup use an old toothbrush and gently buff the dead flaky skin off your face.

I agree with the other posters, exfoliating and use a thick moisturser.

I recommend A & D ointment for most skin problem. It's basically petroleum jelly with vitamins A and D added in.
Vaseline brand also has some great intensive care moisturizers and Neutrogena Norwegian formula is really great. I also use Clinique's Dramatically Different moisturizing lotion on my face.

I live in the US and you can get it in any chemist or store that sells that kind of thing here. Maybe try amazon.com.

I wouldn't say go straight for a thick moisturiser, as exfoliating your skin will mean what you have been trying to get rid of with moisturiser now won't be there any more. Keep using what you are using for now, and see what happens over time while getting rid of the dead skin.

My face gets dry during winter. Exfoliating helps, but I use a thicker moisturizer at night, and mix my foundation with a day cream.
