I actually think its true. My friends that im around with most, we have our periods at extremely similar times, which is scary because it happens often a lot! My health teacher told me about this once too. She said when she was teaching a young class full of girls in health, they decided to see if this myth was true. Turns out it was. Most girls got their first periods at the same time with eachother! How weird is that?

Mine starts about two days after my mum's, so I believe it's true. I know a group of girls who get theirs all around the same time too.

Me and my old best friend always started and finished on the same day when we used to hang round constantly.
I now have a similar cycle to one of my sisters.
I don't really find it weird cuz its always happened to me xD

It is a real, scientifically proven thing that happens.
Come on Finny, you're a scientist, please don't use "proven" to mean "has been studied...badly"!
I should add, I accept the idea that women's hormones can influence each other, I just don't think it's nearly as ubiquitous as people seem to think, and I would *guess* that it would have to involve closer, more constant contact than most women have with each other. I think most people's anecdotal evidence can be explained as coincidence and the studies I have read about (albeit briefly) are not very convincing either.
It's been scientifically studied - quite a lot.
It's been called the Dormitory effect (as when girls stay in dorms persay in bparding schools their cycles would sync).
It's due to pheromones. One study they put a womans sweat pad on the lip of another woman and their cycles synced even though they'd never met (kinda gross though aha)

I'm synced up with my boyfriends sister.

Yes, first with my mom.
She and I get it at almost the exactly the same time, and have cramps almost the same times!
It often happens that I whine about my cramps, and she says she's in pain too.
Me and my best friend also have periods at the same time.

My periods are so random, they just come whenever they want so i just sync randomly with my mum and sister

Me and my mum are sometimes.. makes me feel totally sorry for my dad and brother :L

it is a fact that if you spend a lot of time with another girl, you will experience your periods at pretty much the same time.
when my sister was living with us we would start on the same day and finish on the same day.

Never happened to me - but I think The Pill kind of kills the syncing.
My dad has experienced it though. He works as a pedagogue and 9/10 of his colleagues are female. They sync. Then once a month he's commanded to run to a store and buy pads and tampons... and candy.

Mine would always happen after my mothers finished so I do think that syncing up with women you are close to is possilbe.

I have 3 sisters and we are all synced up ! It's an adaption - animals do it in the wild! It's because they would all be fertile at the same time, so if a lone male was to impregnate one of the females he could have a go at the others whilst he's around, which would ultimately increase the pack size
Hope that helped x

I went to an all girls' school for 10 years and we were all really open about this sort of thing, so we always knew when anyone had there period. It turns out that mine was synced with 3 of my friends.

I'm always on mine the same days as my mom and my sister. So yeah, I believe it happens.

My mum never talks about her periods so I have no clue if I'm synced up with her. I used to be in sync with my sister even though I was on the pill, in fact it was only after I started taking the pill that we synced :S We're out of sync again now because I'm really irregular since coming off the pill but I'm going back on it soon so maybe we'll sync up again.

Yes it is possible, it all deals with pheromones. Mine is synced with some of my close friends.

I live with my best friend and for one week a month we cannot be near each other without having a massive row. I hate syncing

Yeah its totally possible!!! When i moved in with my roomies in uni we didnt have ours at the same time at all but within a couple of months the four of us were getting them around the same time, like within 2 or 3 days! Kinda freaky I think! lol

I think with my family it was more coincidence, because I get my period at the same time as my sister but I only see her about every 4 months. Although it helps my mom because if one of us gets it the other isn't far behind.

My mom and I often get our periods the same day.

I don't really believe in it. I think it's just coincidence. You're bound to be on your period at the same time as other females you live with at least part of the time. If you all have regular cycles then obviously that pattern will continue, and if you don't it'll probably still be close enough to look like it's synching for a while.
thats what i was wondering before i made this thread lol i guess its impossible to tell unless we put two girls with diff cycles into a room together for like 6 months and see what happens lol
When I started living in my college dorm, for the first three months my roomie and I were 2 weeks apart. After that my period started coming later. By five months she and I were synced for the next year. When I was away from her for about 3 months, are periods started going at different times again. It has to do with the hormones we give off.

Yes I believe it's true.
Me, my mum, my sister and my best friend had all started and come off on the same day..
It's quite odd lol.
