Is it just me, or do some people already have a preset vendetta against pregnant women? I feel like I can't even BREATHE in some places without someone getting mad at me and telling me that I need to "control my hormones."

thats aweful! *huggles* its not something you can control so ignore them
people were helpful most of the time exspecially at my job and in bus offering seats
I have more problems with people complaining about push chairs

Then again, my workplace consists of teaching a bunch of high school kids, some of which are pregnant themselves. I don't know why I expect anything less.
I wonder some days why I even took this job.

It's becoming more and more commonplace around here. I have even had some pregnant 14 year olds come up to me and start a conversation about having a baby and labor and birth and what I recommended. I remember wondering to myself how the country has gotten to that point.

may I know where you live?
oh God, totally akward
teeny pregnancy is still big news here I think...
but I thought schools & teachers would do more about sexual education nowadays and about birth control/contraception
I remember it from my time at school
well, at least she came for advice even though it migth have been too late for advice about contraception -.-
what do the parents say to their preggy kids???

Hey that was in 1999, I was 12 then as well! Definitely not having babies though.. well I hadn't even started my period. That girl would have been raped though, it's not really fair to tar her with the same brush as slightly older girls who just make dumb choices.
I know it's not in your job description, Akra, but I'd want to do my best to help those girls who come to you for advice. Pregnant + ignorant is not a good combination.
Hope you guys and your bumps are all doing okay!

Oh i didn't realise it was rape i thought they were investigating it because she was under 16 so it's illegal.

I live in the USA, and I also live in the South, but it seems like teen pregnancy has become the norm really. I don't ever turn down girls that ask for my help, but I do wonder to myself what has made the world change so much.
I will say that I do have some very good conversations with some of the older pregnant girls that have come to see me over the years.

oh my
that poor girl
oh my Akra... this sounds indeed like oyu had maybe to many conversations with preggy teens?
'over the years...' o.O
I am also surprised so many decide to have the baby - I don't know if I would have the willpower at such a young age :S
on the other hand... I wouldn't like to do the opportunity! :S

Well since it is technically the "conservative South", you have a lot of pro-lifers. Which I don't mind. A lot of my old students have sent me pictures of their babies and how they have grown and they check in with me every few months or so. For some, becoming a parent makes them grow up. Although I will say that I have only seen ONE that is still with the father of her baby, which does sometimes make me a little sad. High school relationships like that aren't mean to last. But for the most part, these mommies have supportive and loving families that let them go to school and take care of the babies.
Some dropped out after having a baby so that they wouldn't burden their parents and just took up a trade. That's fine too, if that's what works. Like I said, most of them end up growing. I have few horror stories.

Sorry you have to deal with all that, Lulu. Men can be a little bit insensitive at times.

yes, support of the families is important for preggy teens
hm, but they do need the eductation in later life to provide for their kids ... :S
ok, they could still do it later but I htink its not so easy in the US?

Well after you drop out of high school, you have to get a GED certificate, which is somewhat the equivalent of a diploma. Some do graduate but the ones that drop out can normally get a GED.
Not everyone needs college though. I know trade schools have been gaining a lot of ground lately in the US because not everyone has the time and money it takes to dedicate to a traditional university.

I read one post about pregnant teens, and I thought "That can't really be that uncommon, can it?" Many people around where I live get pregnant, mostly around their third year of high school. I wonder what it would be like to be a pregnant teen? (Crime rate is very high in my area.)
Offline
Well, I guess it all depends on what you're used to. Around where I live, it happens so much that there is hardly a shock factor anymore. To some people it's a complete WTF moment. Some areas have virtually no teen pregnancy rates, and some have high rates. Where I live is somewhere down in the middle.
Offline
think I live then at a place where teeny preggyness is still not so common...
in all my courses to prepare for birth, now in the baby courses, at hospital there hasn't been a single preggy teen
I also got the pill for free till I was 18... which was awesome ^^ kinda expensive now
Offline
I got the pill for free too. I had my first child when i was 18 so i guess i was a teen
i dont think 18 or 19 really count though. My best friend had a baby when she was 15! It didn't end well she was too stressed and gave the baby up. Very sad
Im off on holiday first thing tomorrow ladies so i won't be about for a few days. Take care of yourselves and ill chat to ya when im back
