Round 1
The theme for next round is a painting (one of Mei's favorites )
So either you go for the historical personage, or the feeling of the painting, or whatever inspires you....we love to be surprised.
Please always state the artist and title of the song, in case links don't work.
Have fun!

I choose this song because of the story of Joana D'Arc.
She was burned for fighting for the french revolution - and I bet she would do it all over again, like the song says.
For the outfit I tried to portrait the white dress she was burned with.

Coldplay - Viva La Vida
If we neglect the fact that the woman on the painting is Joan I think that the painter is trying to show us the idyllic life. People have different views when thinking and analyzing a painting and that's why I choose Viva la vida. The song also has the ancient, historic feel to it and just the melody of the song makes me shiver. Also it speaks of evil so it can be identified to Joan's enemies ^^

Tnx for keeping me. Well, this painting is awesome, but the task is really hard, which makes a challenge
I would describe it like this: everything's destroyed (because it seems to me that it is in this picture) and this woman is all alone, but like she's waiting for someone, but she's still a little hopeless, and though there is no such pain on her face expression, the painting really makes me sad, I don't know why. And I can see those ghosts behind her, but I don't really know how to describe it, lol. Well, anyway, the song I put is by Shakira, it's called "La despedida", which means "The farewell". I will write here the lyrics, too, and the translation, just in case, I hope you like my entry, and I hope I don't get eliminated because of misunderstanding the painting, lol.

From the painting, it seemed like she was a little scared and was trying to be brave for what would come ahead, so my outfit has a little bit of a tough look for the tough shell she seems to need in the future.
The song I chose was Brave by Idina Menzel

thanks for keeping me in.
The woman in the painting looks like she is waiting for a loved one. She also looks a bit scared, but hopeful for what is to come in the future. It took me a while but I just noticed the angels in the background by the trees. This painting is actually a very depressing piece.
I wanted to go for a style that was like she was waiting around the house for something good to happen.

Whoohoo, I made it through! And I'm back with another semi-obscure folk song. This contest is awesome!
Song--Whose Garden Was This?, originally recorded by Tom Paxton, but covered by John Denver I prefer the Tom Paxton version myself.
When I saw the painting, I didn't see Joan of Arc, I saw an overgrown dilapidated wilderness, with a wistful woman looking off into the distance, sad muted colors. It took a minute for me to see the angel, and when I did, he looked to be hanging from the branches by his neck. Very depressing, which brings me to my song choice....
Whose Garden Was This? is a lament. It speaks of a space that was once beautiful and cared for, but now sadly isn't. The angel in the background is like an echo of the past while Joan in the foreground looks sadly at the present and wonders if the future will bring more of the same.
Sorry about the way my twisted mind works, ladies, but I never was one to take the easy way out.

I chose This song because in the picture, the woman looks like she lives in poverty, and although she has her faith(background pics) She's still waiting for the rest of the world to realize what were doing to it, then everyone, including her, can be freed from poverty.

I chose Someone Watching Over Me by Hilary Duff. To me, the woman in the painting looks scared but resolved and strong, and the figures in the background appear to be watching over her and helping guide her to her destiny.
Online

it seems like the woman realizes there is something out there for her just out of her reach. she doesn't know if it's something good or bad, which frightens her a little, but she knows if she got the chance, she'd take it. therefore, so i dressed my bimbo in a way that she'd be ready to get up and go in an instant
song-just around the riverbend from pocahontas
I look once more
Just around the riverbend
Beyond the shore
Where the gulls fly free
Don't know what for
What I dream the day might send
Jut around the riverbend
For me
Coming for me

When I see this picture I'm thinking of an Italian woman so I chose the song Bella Ciao and made an outfit consisting of a mix between old and new Italy...hope it is ok

When I saw the picture, the only thing that get iin my mind is that tthe women is waiting for someone to come at her, like she know that person will never come, but she still wait's and don't lose her hope, she dream that will come that day when that person will be there..
[It's a little like what Jelena said,I'm not copying her,but it's really what came in my mind.^-^]

I choose
"Comptine d'un autre été - L'après-midi" by Yann Tiersen...
It always makes me think of a calm summer afternoon in the garden of an old country house... et's pretend there's now weidr knight in the back of the painting... ^^

To me this painting represents a woman who see's darkness ahead to me she's looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. (That's what the black cloud and the kerosene lamp represent) In the painting it looks as if she's carrying a burden on her shoulders... she seems sad, weary, and afraid.
The song I chose was Flyleaf- All Around Me
