I don't like to use term 'indie' because it has lost its meaning. There are bands who used to make records in independent record labels but not anymore. Who really thinks Sonic Youth is an indie band? Everything can be labelled as indie nowadays.

When a kid comes up to me and say: "I like indie music." ,I kind of assume they just listen to what is played on the radio at the moment. Most of the time it's true, because when I ask them what they exactly mean by indie they say: Arctic Monkeys. big_smile

Arctic Monkeys. D: I can't stand their music! When I studied photographing there were students who played Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party during the lessons... Those lovely indie kids!

I seen them once on television back when I was living at my moms (I don't have a tv now). I don't remember what music they ware playing so I can't say much about it ,I know they ware popular and ware overplayed on radio and tv. Doesn't sound like a band on an independent label to me ,but as someone already pointed out to me many times "indie is the new *in* thing and got a new meaning".

Yes.  I didn't like to say I liked indie music in 2004 because I didn't want to sound like a prat.  Now I wouldn't say it because it would be meaningless.

Re: indie Kids! :D

I like a lot of "Indie" music... Although I don't know if they are signed by major record labels or not (they probably are). I've never been one to really research the music I listen to. I really don't care where the band is from or what the band members names are or what label they are signed to.

I like Fleet Foxes, Pavement, Wilco, Calexico (my favorite), The Decemberists, Grizzly Bear, Panda Bear, The Flaming Lips...
