Wearing socks with flip-flops for example is just...awful.

Socks can look great with heels,
like mary janes:
but socks with flat sandals, especially not fashion ones
look childish and tacky (to me that is, everyone's opinion is their own.)

Even though it goes against pretty much every conventional rule of fashion ever made, I think it can look really cute when it's done right. But I think it needs to have really nice (and not dirty or old) socks and heels defiantly look best with this look. And it also goes without saying that the rest of the outfit has to work in order to pull it off though.
I would say, if you have confidence, go for it!
You said yourself it's good to be daring. ^_^
