Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

Hey guys,
I wanna get opinion from religious people or nonreligious people, whoever feel like they're confident enough to answer this question.

Sooo.. the Bible says that Jesus came to save the world from their sins and enable us to go to Heaven and such.

But why didn't Jesus come immediately after Adam and Eve sinned? Like, what happened to the people who existed before Jesus?
Basically what I'm trying to get at is why did he not come sooner if he was trying to save EVERYONE.

I don't know what happened to the people who existed before him  hein

On a side note:: How many religious people believe in gay/lesbian rights? and believe in abortion?

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

no point trying to fathom the bible.

personally i think religious people who say stuff like ''i can't accept the way my [make-belive] god made you because it's against my religion''. the bit about homosexuality in the bible is right next the bit about not having a beard and not eating shrimps isn't it? or was that something else?

the only part about abortion is the obvious ''do not kill'' and the bit about pulling out.

sorry if my views offend.... and they probably will...

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

IMO there's a lot of contradictory & conflicting stuff in the Bible, especially when you start comparing the Old Testament VS the New Testament. IMO people should face the fact that there are lots of things that don't make sense and lots of unanswered questions etc. Its not just the Bible though, issues like this are prevalent in all religions (and its also issues like this that cause a lot conflict, pain & despair etc in the world).

Thats why i am happy being a non-religious agnostic (who knows if there's a god or not, its unprovable, but i will try and lead a good life regardless) ^_^v .

If you go to church, I think the person(s) you need to pose this to is your church leader(s).

My views on religion I know are controversial, so I will keep my opinion to myself.  I have no problem with those who choose to be religious so as long as they don't attempt to get over the top preachy (and try to convert) me.

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

Because the Bible was written by two different groups of men (yes, men, not god) in two very different time periods, who shared different views on the world. It makes sense that their stories would not overlap.

Also, the part about homosexuality in the Bible is also where it says not to eat pigs or crustaceans or wear blended fabrics in your clothing. So anyone who is against homosexuality should really watch what they eat and wear. I know of many people who claim to be "good Christians" yet they go against much of what is said in the book. It's basically "I'll follow the bits I want to follow and ignore the rest" in today's religion.

Edit - typo

Hm - I don't know what is the answer for your first question. I have never heart it.
For the second one - Jesus came to hell after he died and before he ressurected and kind of "pulled out" all good people from that. This is, I believe the old reasoning - I think Orthodox Church may still have it in doctrine. Catholic opinion nowadays is there is a law that all people who have never heard about Jesus (lived before him or for example nowadays in Amazonian jungle) and are good, will go to heaven even though they are not Christian. The same works for children, insane and mentally retarded people. unfortunatly, it doesn't work for people who heard about Jesus and christianity, but for various reasons didn't become Christians.

Quite many religious people believe in gay's right to have relationship. Some protestant churches for sure. Many Catholic people, though it's against Church's teaching. In fact it's just a matter of interpretation of the Bible.
The old testament law about homosexuality isn't exactly working for modern Christians. I mean it doesn't have to. Those were laws for Jews (among not eating pork, ritual cleaniness and much more) not wearing clothes from mixed fabric is agood example. Jesus made a new testament with humanity, so Christians have another contract with God. They are even chapters in New testament about those laws not being valid anymore.
Catholic Church believes in dignity and love for gay people - due to the rule of 'hate the sin, not the sinner'. In short, it means they accept someone can be gay, but think such person shouldn't have sex. Never, with noone. Even themsleves (because masturbation is prohibited).
With abortion - most Catholics see it as murdering a child, simply. Though some may have different views. The official opinion of church is foetus is a human being since the moment of conception, so has all human rights. Women whose life depends on doing an abortion are not old that they should sacrifice for the child, but those who do are considered heroins, if not saints.

well... i am roman catholic (not very much different from christianity) i dont know about what happened to the people before jesus came but i do know if youre christian/catholic
its wrong to be lesbian/gay, however as much as i do have faith i still believe people should be aloud to love whoever they want to, but i definately think abortion is very wrong as it is murder, as a the babys heartbeat developes as early as 7 weeks which means it is living (thats not me being religious as i dont follow all the things youre not suppose to do, this is just simply what i personally, no religion involved, think is wrong).

feel free to disagree thats just my opinion as not all catholics and christians believe the same thing.

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

Adam and Eve sinned? hmm musta missed that bit. The Bible is just stories, and so as a fiction novel can get away with poetic licence so can the bible.

Being homosexual is personal choice, as is abortion.

In my humble opinion, Religion is merely a crutch for weak people who need something to blame when things go wrong, and to thank when things go right. People who cannot actually think that much of themselves to know that things that happen in this life are all down to the individual, and not devine intervention.

Needless to say, I am not a believer in any way, shape or form.

So why was it forbidden? What made this particular apple a bad thing to eat, apart from the Devil saying so? Also what is so special about the Garden of Eden? What happened to them after they were banished? Who said they were banished?

Meh, I don't really care!

Unibabi- that's a very interesting question. I think that a lot of the bible just doesnt add up though. Maybe try not to over-think it?, millons of people already have and haven't come up with any good answers.

Sarahjason- I'm pretty sure it never said the forbidden fruit was an apple. It just said fruit. Maybe it was a banana...

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

i'm not going to answer now because i wanna go to bed and see Dexter, but i will followe this thread, finally we have something interenting to talk about.
personally i was always been on the snake side, the tree and apple represent the knowledge, eating the apple adam and eve begun to be aware of their nudity for example and that not everything is granted.
and as some said above, the bible is messed up for many reasons. a honest priest told me that when i was in junior high school, during the religion class. This part for the christianity it's not important, but following the logic we should assumer either after adam and eve god created more people or that eve had babies with her own sons and so on...

Oh, churches usually have answers for any question - just would those answers be convincing to you - that's completly different story. But that's what theology deals with.

I consider myself to be Christian, yet I'm all for humans being made in God's image, and therefore there is nothing wrong with being homosexual/bisexual/asexual. I'm also pro-choice as long as it's done for the right reasons.

On a side note:: How many religious people believe in gay/lesbian rights? and believe in abortion?

According to the OT, God dealt with the majority of sinners a few times before sending Jesus.  The falling of the tower of Babel and Noah's flood.  He had cities destroyed multiple times, by war or supernatural means.

He tried to save people through the power of fear, I assume.  As it worked at first, but then when it ceased to, he tried starting over entirely with Noah's family.  It failed again, and this time he tried a new method.

I'm an atheist, but I've read most of the Bible.  >.X

On the controversial views, there is nothing in the Bible against abortion.  In fact, there are many times God told his soldiers to kill children and unborn that are still in the womb.  Heck, he took the firstborn of the Egyptians as punishment.  "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones."  Abortion is not addressed at all in the Bible, yet it happened then, as well.  Throughout history, women have known tricks to deal with an unwanted pregnancy.

On homosexuality, you can twist the evidence however you like.  Sodom and Gomorrah are not about homosexuality, though, but about angel raping and a lack of hospitality.  As for "man shall not lie with mankind as he lies with womankind," you can make a case that it means no missionary-style sex.  *shrug*

I don't know why the Christians don't follow the OT, any more, either.  Jesus himself said that he did not come to change the law nor one letter of the law.  So it should all still apply.  Yes, your Jesus came to save you from your sins, according to your viewpoint.  But that doesn't mean you get to continue committing them.  >.X

At any rate, read the Bible yourself.  Do not let others tell you how to interpret it, as everyone has a bias.

On a lighter note, google "Mr. Deity" on youtube.  I'm watching the episodes right now and it's quite amusing.

So I'm guessing you made the choice to be heterosexual?  In that case, I'd like to be asexual.  Well, damn.  I still have my frickin' sex drive, despite the fact it only causes trouble.  No, homosexuality is not a choice.  It is ingrained as part of nature.  Hence why over 400 species of animals have documented cases of homosexuality.  If you think about humans as only born, procreate, die, then yes, there is no purpose for homosexuality.  But we are social creatures.  We all have different roles in our societies, and homosexuality has a purpose as well.  I would recommend doing research on it.  Evolution's Rainbow is written by a transgender biologist and is quite good.  Bruce Bagemihl wrote Biological Exuberance which has all the animal species in which homosexuality was documented.  And there's a load on the internet if you only google it.

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

The bible was re-written many, many times and translated many times. Each time it was altered to suit the needs of those rewriting it. It was altered to incorporate beliefs and celebrations of the pagan societies people were trying to convert, and it was altered to make people think they should act a certain way, usually to suit the needs of a few so they could control the masses. When the Old Testament was translated to Greek, "young woman" was translated into "virgin" because the Greeks believed in spontaneous conception and that change made the Bible more palatable to their pagan beliefs. It was not originally prophesied that Jesus would be born of a virgin, but of a young woman, and everyone is born of a young woman (after all we all go through menopause). That one change has had an enormous effect on the way that sex is viewed. And that is just one small example of how the bible has been altered. It is a work of fiction written by men. Any truth, if any, that is once had is lost to us now.

I am pro-choice, no one has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body or dictate that she should have child she may not want, be able to care for, maybe too young. The reason does not really matter.

As for homosexuals /lesbians, do whatever makes you happy I don't care.

I don't think it is right for people to try to impose their religious views on the choices other people make, it's none of their business.

I know my views are controversial, I'm an atheist, so I don't believe in any religion. I can't because it's not fact, and I'm not 10 years old.

Re: Calling all people who think they know a lot(religion wise)

The bible is not a code to live by word for word. I'm Roman Catholic (*cough* yes, it is Christian, not "like" Christian) and I was raised to not take the bible literally as it is not the word of God. MEN chose which books were published and which weren't.

Adam and Eve were the original sinners because God gave them EVERYTHING and the one thing He/She asked them NOT to do was eat the apple. They wanted what they couldn't have and so everything was taken away. It's a story, a metaphor.

Do I believe Adam and Eve were real people? No. I believe science on how the earth was created but the one thing science can not explain is how something came from nothing. There is something bigger than us. Something that has been here since the dawn of time and will be here if/when the end of days comes.

In my view God is a loving and forgiving God. He/She created men who created abortion. He created heteros, homos and bis. There is nothing wrong with these ideas and sexualities He/She has created since He/She is perfect and all knowing. Just because some people say these things are wrong does not make it so.

EDIT: Even though my post when I edit it says d.a.w.n of time it seems to come out sunrise of time. WTH?

Hey guys,
I wanna get opinion from religious people or nonreligious people, whoever feel like they're confident enough to answer this question.

Sooo.. the Bible says that Jesus came to save the world from their sins and enable us to go to Heaven and such.

OM Gosh,  Oh I'm a perfect example of human frailty, and one blessed by the grace of God, and Christ's sacrifice for me.
Ten thousand words from me would make no difference, because it is all about faith.
You ask some questions that require  more conversation than is socially acceptable on Miss Bimbo.   I have found that talking about God,  get's me in big trouble.  Sorry.....  I love your challenge,  but I don't dare in public.  Christians must still face the Roman Lions.
'Bimbo's like me,  are less than human on Miss Bimbo.  Just kitty food..........
Belief is nothing in a world that despises you.
                        Unless you know your faith.
                               with your heart.

    what a mighty good man...............
Jesus rocked my world.........

WOW!!! What a loaded question. As per my religion, they waited in a sate of limbo until the gates of heaven were open and they were to be judged then.

As for my religion allowing homosexual and abortion rights, no way. I am Catholic. But I personally would not push my religion on others especially at times of reproduction. I also believe that if God didn't want homosexuals walking the Earth he would not have put them here. I will not disrespect my Lord and believe that what he did is wrong based on my or someone else's interpretation of his laws.
