The downside to living in a highly-conservative state has always been the fundamental religious, who are obsessed with bringing Hell's fury on nonbelievers. >.X But now, Texas is trying to rewrite history in our children's classrooms to promote more conservative beliefs.

Ironically enough, the majority of the men who wrote our Constitution were not Christians, but deists. They believed in a supreme being out there, but subscribed to no religions. And worst of all: "There were no historians, sociologists or economists consulted at the meetings, though some members of the conservative bloc held themselves out as experts on certain topics."
Yay for politics in the classroom. D; Read and judge for yourself.

It's ridiculous - at times like this I'm glad I don't live in America.

here is where having smart parents is an advantage. you may learn something in school for grades but what you really think is a different thing.

Art. VI (The Constitution) "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."
Art. 11. (Treaty of Tripoli) "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
Le gasp!

The strange thing is capitalists don't support the idea of government funded schools so why are the government funded schools teaching the superiority of American 'capitalism'? That's the thing with public schools I guess, majority vote determines what will be taught.

One of the things that makes me shameful of people in this country.

People are actually allowed to do that?

I still love that some people think there exists a thing called "liberal bias". It's called NOT being biased.

That is sad and disgusting. Glad I don't live in Texas. I don't think these people should be allowed to do that, and put whatever they want into text books. Our textbooks already have so much wrong with them.

...That is stupid.
I'm waiting for someone to actauly turn round and say'if you have sex you will get pregnant and die'.
What are they going to preach in these book? They may end up alienating large areas of that state.

Oddly enough, the capitol of Texas is a blue blip in the middle of the Bible Belt. Austin is majority democratic/liberal. And yet, it's here where these decisions are being made. >.X

Well, you know that is coming. Reports are out showing labor related deaths are at an all time high, especially among the poor and uninsured. If you don't have sex, you won't get pregnant and die.

I think technically they are. If the taxpayers pay for education then they have the right to decide what should be taught.

Well, it's probably because they went to college. Did you know that college can leave you liberally biased for life if you're not careful? It's true, a "conservative" told me.

Well that's how it's suppose to work. If you pay for your child's education (even if it's through taxes) shouldn't you have a say in what they're taught?

My nephew actually got told just that in his health class this summer. Well actually it was "If you have sex, you will get aids, herpes, Warts, have a baby, and die within a week". He was never told anything about protection or making smart decisions about sex, just that he was supposed to not have it. He actually asked my sister-in-law why she wasn't dead yet.

Just reporting my objection, that I'm not able to reply in the fullest sense. It is not Miss Bimbo Friendly, being in the minority. The thread has been an interesting read though, even if it has been disturbing to me.
'Jesus wept'
Censorship, is the last weapon to control the masses. School text books, are the front line against dictators. Well, when you wave a white flag, and give up. The whole community loses it's ability to think in critical terms. The new evil, is one that you embrace, with the hope of salvation, from 'man'. The demonetization, of parents who want a moral education for their children should not be mocked. I find it a pity that the state thinks they can raise your children better than you. Sounds a bit communist to me, yet it is our reality.

Texas is the largest consumer of textbooks. So when we decide what goes in textbooks, it affects other states. >.X So if you have a kid in public school in the U.S., this may have an effect.

It is true, though. College is when most people learn to see the world from others' viewpoints. So then we come to accept that gays and atheists are human beings, too, who deserve equal treatment.
