♥I put together Ann Madison's highly anticipated hair tutorial for her. The hair was created by her, and all the screenshots do indeed originate from her computer. I wrote the entire tutorial, and she has approved it.♥
This tutorial was meant for Photoshop, but a similar outcome can be produced using the pen tool in other photo editing programs.
The Final Hair Result:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Start With a Sketch
If you have never used the pen tool to make hair before you should probably start with a sketch of your hair on a layer above your bimbo’s bald head. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and you can always change it later. In the example below you can see how much the hair changed from the before and after.
before and after hair sketch example
2. Pick Your Hair Color
The palette below consists of every color of hair on Miss Bimbo. The darkest outline color is on the left, while the lightest highlight is on the right. The middle color is the base (background) hair color. Use this hair color guide when designing your hair for maximum results.
#1 = The darkest outlines
#2 = Darker hairs/lines
#3 = The hair base
#4 = Highlight
#5 = The brightest highlight
3. Make Your Hair Base
On a new layer start creating the outline of your hairstyle with the pen tool. You can trace over your sketch, or just create it as you go. Once finished, fill your outline by right clicking your mouse and selecting FILL PATH. Use one of the base hair colors to fill it (#3).
4. Add Dark Outlines
Make a new layer. Using the same path you used for the background hair color; right click and select STOKE PATH. Stroke the outline with the darkest color (#1). Then, use your pen tool to draw in some of the prominent hair lines. Once finished, stroke your new paths with the same color (#1). A few of your hairs can go outside the base hair shape – this creates a more realistic look.
Right now you should have 2 layers, one being the background hair color – and the other is your hair outlines.
♥Tip♥ If you need help deciding what kind of lines should be in your hairstyle(wavy, curly, straight), look at photos of actual hair to get some reference.
5. Add Highlights
Make a new layer. Use your pen tool to make many more lines in-between your dark outlines. Once you are finished, right click and stroke your paths. Be sure to use the lightest color (#5) for your highlights.

6. Add More Shadows and Highlights
Improve on your shadows and highlights by simply creating more hair lines everywhere. On separate layers use the (#2) and (#4) shadow/highlight colors when you stroke your paths. It should look end up looking something like this:
7. Darken The Part in The Hair
Create a new layer. Create a shape with the pen tool representing the darkness in the hair part. Use the (#2) color to fill the path.
8. Darken the Top of The Head
A bimbo’s hair is usually a bit darker on the top of the head. To create this effect, simply take a large black brush with a low opacity and draw in a darker area on the top of the head. Make sure this is on a new layer.
9. Add the Final Highlights
On a new layer take your brush tool and change it to 5 pixels wide. Change its color to white, and then draw on the areas of the hair that would have highlights. After you have finished, turn the opacity to 35-45%.
♥Tip♥ If the type of hair you are creating is a fluffy/wavy hairstyle, sometimes the highlight can look too harsh. To fix this, put a Gaussian blur at 1.0 on your highlight layer.
♥Tip♥ To help better determine where your final highlights should go, look where the hair is at its highest points. A highlight is usually placed at the tops of curls, waves, and places where there is lots of volume – like the top of the head.
10. Add Dark and Light Stray Hairs
To complete your new hairdo you need to add a few more stray hairs. On a new layer above your highlights create a few more dark hairs with the dark outline color (#1). Make another layer for the lighter stray hairs and use the (#5) highlight color.
♥Tip♥ When you finish, you may notice that some lines are not as “crisp" and clean as you would like them to be. To fix this use a smart sharpen (FILTERS> SHARPEN> SMART SHARPEN) with a very low amount on your final hair image, or just on some of the hair lines.
