Patti Smith is often called the godmother of punk. Her album Horses went on to inspire bands such as R.E.M, U2 and Clash.
And Sonic Youth is credited as influencing the grunge movement.

I went on a country music quest! I tried to find some Shania, since she was mentioned but I stumbled upon way too much leopard print clothing and got scared off. sad

But I did find a Taylor Swift song that reminds me of smacking a dog on the nose with rolled up newspaper.

And an embedding disabled Dixie Chicks video that is BEAUTIFUL. I realize it's about their little controversy, but I relate to them for this. I can't keep my mouth shut and I don't think I should be expected to.

My sister showed me this awhile ago, I think it gives it a different perspective when a woman sings it.

Then there is always Loretta Lynn. She made songs about The Pill and Divorce when it wasn't something that was talked about. Then there is always this one from her. smile

The lead singer of my favourite band 'Evanescence' - she's had a tough life, but she's a brilliant and respected artist with a s***load of talent - and she's never had to strip to get famous tongue I lot of her songs are about relationships, but I adore the way she writes about them, and she has an amazing amount of dignity.
