I doubt they were intended to be role models, good or bad. They're just entertainers and they're hardly marketed towards a young audience. And if children are listening to songs with lyrics about "loosening up buttons" and wanting groupies, then that's hardly the girls' fault.

i agree

They just suck in general.
They're ugly, make crap music, etc.
Everyone famous nowadays for the most part just seems to be untalented and ugly and trashy-looking.

They are burlesque dancers.
Women have been sexy since forever.
Just because a group of adult women want to be sexy and make sexy videos doesn't make them bad role models.

Please find the official lyrics of their song "When I grow up".
Theres an internal message there for the audience that the song is aimed at. This song doesn't seem to be aimed at a mature audience. But rather the impressionable teen audience.
Women have been sexy but there's a fine line between sexy and sleazy.

I didn't see any bad messages in this song, except maybe boys noticing girls? I read that the song is about being famous, being in magazines, etc etc. Its not like the song is about having sex and doing drugs.
And I personally don't see anything wrong with how they are. They aren't sleazy, I mean, yes they dance sexy (in my opnion, not sleazy) and they dress somewhat risque, but I hardly would call it sleazy.

I think the problem is that people put too much emphasis in making stars role models. Parents should point out to their kids that these people are entertainers, they're not meant to inspire a kid to go dress in strip wear and writhe around in front of guys. They're just a band, if you're going to pay attention to them, do it because you like their music, and remind your kids that they're behavior and costumes are just that, COSTUMES. On the flip side I don't really care for their music that much, but the lead singer Nicole Sherzinger (spelling?) is from my hometown and went to school with my cousin, so... Much love for a Louisville, Kentucky girl making in the big time.

What is with the fact that at one appearance somewhere there will be about 10 of them, and then the next time they're seen there's only 5.
Can someone explain to me why half the group disappears randomly?

i dont think they are role models at all. i wouldnt dress like them and if i was older and had a daughter i wouldnt let her wear that either. they are neither good nor bad. they are not role models at all.

My daughter is 9 and ask for this new song, When I Grow Up, to be put on her MP3 player. I have no idea where she heard the song, but I told her no way.
I voted bad role models.

well I would say for younger kids not the best role models just based off of how they dress and some of their lyrics

bad as rolemodels, but they arent exclusively marketed at children and they dont exist as people or singers for that purpose to be kids rolemodels. however they do get deals from kids CDs and go on kids entertainment shows and i would think they should change a lot more of their dance/clothes for that, and possibly their lyrics and videos too if they really are planning on aiming at kids, because lets face it, most girl groups fans are kids or old men.
i think if youre really sure your kids are responsible and wouldnt imitate then they could listen to it, or if you give in to letting your kid have the CD anyway then its still a parents responsibility to teach them about the lyrics and about why its better to choose certin clothes at that age and that its not the same on stage as in school either way.

i think they werent easy for kids to make out though. i mean spice girls 2 become 1 was about sex, and even though i knew making love was sex, it didnt really click. and sex on the beach was just funny for kids.

i used to think sex on the beach was the most ridiculously crazy song ever. i loved it. so much!!
and most songs are dirty if you look at them in detail..

yeah lol. the difference is whether or not the kids will understand them, or take it as a joke, or whether like these days its cool to imitate.

Offline

i dont think my little cousins understand half the songs they listen to.
they just like dancing around pretending they do
prob same for half the kids these days
now i feel old..
Offline

mmhmm but when they imitate the dance moves and clothes, even if it doesnt mean anything to the ids, i can understand the parents worrying. kids arent innocent. noone actually wanted to imitate or be aqua, but i think people really do look up to hot celebrities as role models nowadays.
