My daughter who is 8 came home from school and asked for a real bra...
I was shocked to find Adult theme underwear in shops and was wondering how you feel about this?
We have since compramised on a cami style long vest as she is too young...

It is wrong - kids aren't kids anymore. I had a vest until I was old enough for a bra, and then it was a bra with a purpose and not to look nice. Kids dress like baby prostitutes these days, but really if the parents didn't buy the stuff for them, they wouldn't have it, so I blame the parents!

I think it's wrong for girls who haven't begun puberty but some really do start growing boobs as young as 8 years old and they might well need some kind of support within a year or two. Now my first bra (not til I was 12/13, late bloomer) was a horrible thing since my mum chose the most utilitarian un-fun looking one she could find, but I imagine many little girls do want to feel pretty in the kind of grown up bras that they've seen in adverts etc. Even then though I think certain "raunchy" designs are out, you know lacing and things.. or Playboy and so on.. You have to wonder who ever thinks those things up for young girls.

Adult underwear is for adults (or teenagers depending on the age). IMO its really wrong when you see g-strings, lacy bras & thongs for children. I don't even like little girls wearing bikini's (I mean why?! Bikini's are supposed to accentuate the boobs & curvy hips, they are sexy swimwear, not for kids who don't have boobs or curvy hips etc!). Its like some parents want their little girls to look like pedobait!
Totally wrong.

I was going to mention bikinis but thought I was waffling too much as usual
I've disliked bikinis on little girls ever since I was a little girl myself! What is the point of those little triangles when there's nothing behind them?! I think they sexualise (for want of a better word) little girls much more than just bare skin would, because of what they imply. (In adult women, it's a "guess what's behind here" kind of thing. That's just not nice on a child.) Again I know sometimes the bikini might be want the girl wants, and I don't like the idea of forcing such things because I was told what to wear for about 13 years of my life and I didn't enjoy it much. I just think it's weird that they're so prevalent. Little kids should be able to concentrate on playing and having fun without worrying whether they're popping out of their bikini and I think bras are much the same. If you don't have boobs to worry about yet you shouldn't be worrying about clothing specifically designed for those with boobs!

Yeah I'm definitley not all for little girls wearing thongs and lacy red bras and my kid wont be wearing them. What happened to girls wanting like Disney princess undies and stuff, thats what I wanted.....
You would be surprised how hard it was for me to find a bathing suite for my daughter who was 1 at the time that WASN'T a bikini... she was 1 for goodness sakes! why do 1 year olds need bikinis? so there chubby bellies have room to breath? I don't get it..... I finally found one though, it was the only design they had that wasn't a bikini.

Adult-style bras and training bras, I do not consider an issue, honestly. Panties can also have lace and silly accessories, but they sould not be G-string or thong-style, at all. I actually saw a young girl when I was at Disneyland, on her daddy's shoulders, wearing low-rider jeans and a thong. >.X I was WTH?
I'm most uncomfortable with bikinis intended for toddlers. When I was working at a children's clothing shop, all the other clothing items were modest, simple, and age-appropriate. But they sold bikinis for summer. D;

I think that is wrong
Children should be dressed like children; no bras, no high heals etc... It can only confuse children, and it might give strange ideas to some wierd grownups.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! and who says i'm wrong is actually wrong!
kids, especially females, are like sex toys nowaday and the age considered normal to wear some light make up or a skirt slighly above the knee is lowering. i hate those shirts with "sexy" written on them, bras, unless they are for swimming because they are of course fake, skirts and cloths in general are shorter and tighter, panties look like thongs sometimes.
NO!!! and no to kids beauty pageants too

I blame The Spice Girls, before that you rarely saw little girls dressed in mini-skirts, FMBs and strappy little tops.

I dont think it's wrong. My fat cousin had to wear a bra when we were little because she had little fat boobies. I didnt want a bra until I was around 11 or 12 and so my mother bought me my first training bra. I didnt need one but I liked feeling more "grown up."
As a small child I wore little bikinis. My mom thought they were cute. They usually had a little skirt and were perfectly fine. My mother didnt dress me like a prostitot and I dont think that adult style children's underwear is wrong.

There is a difference between a bra with a purpose, and a bra that looks like something out of a Lads Mag on a 9 year old...

I totally agree!
Bikini's on little girls just look so wrong;

(^ Geez if i walked into a pub dressed like that i would get a hell of a lot of attention from the guys!)
Halter top todler bikini;

(why do they even bother with the top!? The kid has nothing to show! What are they trying to highlight with the top?!)
God, these parents should be ashamed that their kids are dressed up like that- they should be practically arrested for it!

I don't think bikinis for toddlers are wrong. There is nothing sensual about a little round toddler tummy. Many girls that age run around with no shirts on anyway.

I forgot the mention thongs. I dont see why little girls should wear thongs, but cute lacy panties arent bad.

Adult underwear for adults is fine
For kids, its creepy.

I think training bras or regular bras are fine on children if they're needed. I had training bras when I was 12 or so since I didn't really need a bra. Thongs, g-strings, etc. are not appropriate for young children! I also don't think bikinis are appropriate on children either, but two pieces are alright. I think two pieces and bikinis are very different. Two pieces hide a lot more, or things like tankinis. When I was young, a lot of girls I knew wore two pieces (not me, I was a chublette).

Then they should just wear a pair of shorts without a top. But a bikini top highlights breasts, its what it was invented to do- to make boobs look sexier, to draw attention to them etc. On a little boobless kid it is just sexualising the kid for no reason (other than, i dunno, to attract the attention of dirty men?? Are some women so desperate to attract attention with their little girls that they don't care who's looking at them??)- parents have a duty to protect the innocence of their little kids, and i think dressing them like kids instead of dressing them like they are 10/15years older than they really are is important.
If wearing bikini's, mini skirts, lacy underwear etc is fine for girls who don't even know where babys come from yet, then where do you draw the line? Makeup for little girls? I bet soon we'll be seeing a whole new "cute" range of lipsticks & eye shadows next for little girls. Hell, why not get them heel trained when they are still young and have high heel shoes for them!
All of these things were invented for adult women and all have a certain basic sex appeal to them. Its why they look good. But IMO its also why they should stay on adults and not be introduced to little kids.
I do believe we have a problem with kids being exposed to sexual material & adult pressures too young in society, and i don't think issues like dressing little girls up in adult theme clothing is helping.

You serious? Lacy underwear & thongs are sexy underwear, they're not intended for little girls.

I see nothing wrong with a 2 piece like this for a toddler:
And this for underwear is appropriate:
Just my opinion
ETA: Sorry didnt' realize the first pic was so large!

KrissieLee: I think that 2 peice is better than some others, but it still IMO has some issues (for example the way the top is bunched in the breast area and i think the hip cut is a little too high on the pants), but yeah, i guess it is all right. And i agree with the underwear.
Personally i think swimsuits like these are ideal for little girls;

Right, thongs are inappropriate, but I dont think cute little panties with ruffles on the butt are bad for small girls to wear. These are items of clothing that no one but parents are supposed to see. And most mothers who would put these on their babies just giggle and coo at how cute they are.

"pedobait"?? This term makes me uncomfortable. It's not a child's fault when they get preyed on. If a child can be dressed in a way that entices a paedophile then surely you can argue that a rape victim can also entice their attacker? When I child gets molested it's because there's something wrong with the attacker, not their clothes.
(Besides wouldn't a child dressed like a child be more appealing to a paedophile than a child dressed as an adult?)
Don't debate, manipulate! Offline

Bras are for holding and covering breasts. Girls whose breasts didn't start developing don't need bras. I think it's obvious.

Ugh! Okay I think the first one there is okay. The girl looks reasonably old, at least 10 (although is she wearing make up?!) and hah, her figure's not far off mine! The second one, yes the pose is wrong. I actually don't think short skirts are all bad, I mean at least they give you freedom of movement which I think is important for kids playing. Up until the 50s and 60s tiny dresses for girls were very common. That was when dresses lengthened as you aged so perhaps it's seen differently now since the opposite tends to happen.
The third and fourth pictures, yep, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Their bodies are flat as anything. The bandeau top is particularly gross. On an adult woman it would be bordering on indecent. It's like it's trying to remind you that once she's 16 she'll have something there. Her chest no doubt looks exactly the same as that of a boy the same age, it isn't a sexual characteristic yet, but that top tries to make it into one.
